Abraham Philip Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 1 to Mar. 24, 2023.
Abraham Philip was born on June 21, 1952, in Kerala, India and passed on January 30, 2023, after a prolonged illness. He was the eldest son of Prof. T.A. Philip and Thankamma Philip. Beverly, MA was his home.

After schooling in Maharashtra, he studied medicine at St. John's Medical College in Bangalore. He specialized in Forensic Pathology after some years of practice in internal medicine. He immigrated to the United States in 1991. He pursued further training in Pathology at Boston University and Emory University. He worked as a Medical Examiner in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and Georgia.

He was dedicated to his work as a Forensic Pathologist. He would say that he was interested in explaining the causes of death to understand 'how a society lives.' To that end he was a dedicated environmentalist, and advocate for social justice. He volunteered with groups providing aid to Syrian refugees, assisted women who were institutionalized for substance abuse, and worked on Navajo reservations in New Mexico. He was a generous donor to organizations serving indigenous communities, African American populations, vulnerable children, war veterans, and programs committed to environmental conservation.

He was an active parishioner at St. John's Episcopal Church (Beverly Farms) and St. James Episcopal Church (Marietta, Georgia).

Colleagues and friends describe him as a kind and gentle man who brought a sense of humor to the mundane around him. Reading and gardening remained his hobbies.

He is survived by his wife Ivy George and daughter Kripa Philip of Beverly. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, Beverly Farms, on April 1, 2023, at 2pm.
