Adam Vera Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 7, 2016.
Adam J. Vera, 29, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 in Johnson.
He was born on May 13, 1986, in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the second son born to Albert and Susan Vera.
He graduated from North County Union High School in 2004 and earned degrees in both chemistry and music in 2009 from Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York.
At the time of his death, he was employed as a lab technician at Haematologic Technologies in Essex Junction.
Outside of work music and mountains were his true passions. Trained as a classical guitarist, he played electric and bass guitar as well as drums. A quote attributed to him on Facebook, has him saying that "everybody should have a set of drums in their living space."
As an outdoorsman, he was known as a fellow who liked to go solo. He liked climbing mountains and finding his own way. A Thanksgiving Day tradition for him was to hike Burke Mountain in the morning. If there were snow on the ground, he could be seen carrying his snowboard on his back so when he came back down the mountain, he would be flying across snow where no one had been or seen.
At Burke he also taught others as a snowboard instructor. In the summer he skateboarded and hiked whenever he could find the time. As a hiker, he had a unique style that saw him more than once climb Mt. Mansfield wearing flip-flops.

In Johnson, he played in pick-up bands, and is remembered by his band mates as someone who was generous with his skills. He had a memorable presence.
A friend from college remembered him showing up at a wedding, describing him as "gorgeous, smiling, and sorta flirting with my mom."
Another bid her final respects by wishing him an afterlife surrounded by mountains and guitars.
He leaves behind his mother, Susan Vera of Island Pond; his father Albert Vera of Bennington; brothers Aaron and his wife Lindsay Vera of Troy, New York, and Andrew Vera of Island Pond; as well as relatives and friends far and near.
All are invited to a gathering Saturday, March 12, from 12:00 to 4:00 at the American Legion in Island Pond to share the times they had with Adam.

Although time and distance have separated the friendship we embraced for many years, you are forever in our thoughts and prayers. We love you. Heb 2:17-18

I am so so sorry. Adam played the guitar so beautifully. I remember that he learned, originally, as a foxfire project in the eighth grade. But in high school he use to play while we waited for the late bus, and it was really really beautiful. I recently started to learn to play the guitar, this december, just before his passing, and i wondered to myself if i would ever be as good as him. I wont! He was way too good at it. Im so sorry.

My deepest condolences to Adam's family. I worked with Adam at e2e in Ithaca. He was so friendly and nice to talk to that it was easy to like him right from the start and become friends with him. He was very intelligent and talented and a great conversationalist. It was touching that he was so connected to his mom and brothers. You were always in his thoughts. I thought it was sweet that he wanted to stay in touch with me and my husband after he left Ithaca. We even visited him in Vt. I looked forward to his long emails, often complete with pictures from one of his adventures. He was always sincerely interested to know what was happening in our lives as well. That was Adam, a very special and kind person. I will always miss him.

Dear Susan, Aaron, and Andrew:
We are so sorry for the loss of this wonderful, talented young man. We watched him grow up as a peer to some of our children, and were always impressed with his talent and intelligence. He was truly fine., and we are all the poorer with his passing.
You are all in our most heartfelt prayers.

What a beautiful young man. I saw this obituary and felt compelled to comment. Younger by just a few years than my son. So sorry for your family's loss. No words can express my condolences. Although a total stranger - I am feeling for you.

I write this with a heavy heart. I was so saddened to hear the news about Adam. I only have wonderful memories of him as a student at Brighton elementary school and later as a substitute teacher there. His musical talent worked wonders at engaging the students and he knew how important that was in connecting with them. I am sorry I cannot be there on Saturday but I am there in spirit...

I had the pleasure of working with Adam for the past 4 years. He will be greatly missed. I enjoyed his infectious laugh and enthusiasm for outdoor adventure. He had a real easy going laid back attitude. He was smart, pragmatic, realistic and seemed to live completely in the here and now. Rest in peace.

29, far too young. Play on in heaven. I hear there's already a pretty awesome band up there! Didn't know you, but wish I had....sound like one awesome young man.

As a fellow employee of Haemtech, I did not know Adam very well, but nonetheless I feel a great loss at his passing. I'll always remember with fondness this happy image; of him sitting with me on the curb at lunchtime outside Haemtech on a sunny summer day, toes wiggling in his flip-flops, as he played absolutely beautiful and wonderfully intricate melodies on his acoustic guitar. For the gift of his music and his talent, I will always be grateful...
