Adolfo Chavez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 9, 2024.
Adolfo Ruben Chavez, 91, of Premont, TX, a family man who loved the Lord, went home to heaven at 12:12 AM on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

He was born May 28, 1933, to Teodoro and Maria (Johnson) Chavez in Falfurrias, TX (both deceased). He married Brigida Chapa on May 19, 1962, and they enjoyed 55 fruitful and happy years together before she went home to heaven on December 13, 2017.

Surviving are his daughter, Juanita (Orlando) Lopez of Premont, TX, 2 sons, Teodoro (Joyce) Chavez of Spring, TX and Adolfo R. Chavez, Jr. of Premont, TX; 2 grandsons, Lucian Chavez of Spring, TX and Christian Lopez (Myche Melendrez) of San Antonio, TX; 2 granddaughters Natasha (Chris Watkins) Chavez of Denver, CO and Iliana Chavez of Spring, TX and great-grandson, Atli Gonzalez of Denver, CO; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Maria de Rosalio, his brother, Benigno "Ben" Chavez, infant sister, Remigia Chavez. Adolfo served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. Upon discharge he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He worked in construction for many years prior to his employment with Premont ISD, where he remained until he retired.

Adolfo was a faithful member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Premont. He was one of the first four Eucharist ministers for the church, led a prayer group for over twenty years that served many from our community, and was a Third-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

To him the best way to show his love for God was by listening to, helping, and loving those around him. Those who knew him, knew he was a man of few words. However, the words he spoke carried a certain weight to them making you feel he truly understood. His words would give you something to ponder and they could sure make you laugh. His presence was that of a man who is at peace with himself and those around him. He was quick to find humor in things, even in himself. Everything he did in his life; he did with such great love.

Thank you to the St. Theresa family and Premont community for their concern and prayers for Dad during his illness. We are sincerely grateful for the exceptional care, love, and support shown to Dad and our family from Priscilla, Mark, Yvonne, Veronica, Rosario, Chaplin Kathleen and the IPU staff of Harbor Hospice.

We invite you to join us as we celebrate Adolfo's life on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 9:00 AM for the Visitation and Rosary at Alaniz Funeral Home, 516 N. St. Mary's Street, Falfurrias, TX 78355, followed at 11:00 AM for the Funeral Mass where he served and worshiped at Saint Theresa's Catholic Church, 235 SW 4th Street, Premont, TX 78375. I would like to extend my condolence to the family of Mr. Adolfo Chavez. I met Mr. Chavez while working for Premont ISD. He was a hard working gentleman that was always willing to help in anyway possible. He took lots of pride in his job and always had time when asked to share his wisdom, advice and knowledge. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. May he rest in peace.

Although I was one of his nurses, he had an amazing ability to heal me when I saw him. He told me I was not his nurse, I was his friend. He always prayed for me and my family each time I left him, and I always walked away feeling blessed. I am a better man for having known him. He will be missed.
