MARRIAGE, Adrian John Henry
June 25, 1927 - November 9, 2012
Beloved husband of Sandra and loving father to Victoria (Alain) Boire and Nicole Egerton. Loved too by his sisters-in-law Ida Random and Eileen Cunningham, and nieces and nephews. Adrian was born in London, England. He graduated from the London School of Economics with a BA and an MA and came to Canada in 1954, where he taught at the University of BC, first at the School of Social Work and subsequently in the Department of Sociology. He was a member of the John Howard Society and an early member of the BC Civil Liberties Assoc. He really believed in Liberal education and was therefore very happy to participate in the Experimental Collegiate Program at U of California at Berkley from 1967 - 69, which were amongst his most rewarding academic years. Consequently he took part in a similar program at UBC - The Arts 1 program where he taught with distinction and great enthusiasm for several years. He will be greatly missed by many friends and colleagues in Canada, California and England. He was a man of immense erudition as well as wonderful wit and he had a great capacity for friendship - a blessing in this life. His enormous love of classical music was only matched by his knowledge of it. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Columbia-Bowell Funeral Chapel 219 - 6 Street New Westminster, BC.
