SALEM — Agnes 'Sis' Grenier, of Salem, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2008 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Salem in 1924 and was the daughter of the late John and Agnes (Calder) Cronin. She was the wife of the late Henry Grenier with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.
They established their home in Salem and raised their two children, Joseph H. Grenier, now of Beverly and Dale A. (Grenier) Anketell, now of Raymond, Maine . She is also survived by her son-in-law Bill Anketell of Raymond, Maine; grandson William Anketell of Salem; daughter-in-law Kerri Grenier; granddaughter Brianna Grenier; and grandson Connor Grenier all of Beverly.
Sis was from a generation of stay-at-home moms and took great pride in being a homemaker. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking, gardening, boating, fishing, having back yard parties, and playing bingo. She chaperoned for the Chuting Stars and Blue Angels Drum and Bugle Corp. of Danvers of which both her children were active members.
She and her late husband, Henry were avid boaters and could be seen most weekends with their family on their boat the 'Vee Gee,' fishing or anchored at Misery Island to share their bounty with their boating friends.
She had an uncanny knack for always catching the most fish, and she would let you know it.
Sis was born to the Cronin family clan which numbered 14 children. She would entertain her grandchildren with stories of peeling 20 pounds of potatoes and baking five loaves of bread a day to feed her siblings. Her extended family includes two brothers, Earl Cronin of Lakeland, Fla. and Wayne Cronin of Salem; three sisters, Pearl Carney of Peabody, June Smith of Enterprise Ala. and Phyllis Kelley of Fort Myers, Fla. She was predeceased by her siblings, Jerry Cronin, Joe 'Snapper' Cronin, Daniel Cronin, Buddy Cronin, John Cronin, Gladys Driscoll, Shirley Cronin and Eileen Cronin.
