Agnes M. "Aggie" Ten Eyck, 92, of Big Bay, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, March 29, 2013 at her home with her loving family at her side and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice. Aggie was born on June 8, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of the late Charles F. and Charlotte A. (Hammond) Swanson, moving to Big Bay when she was 3 months old and residing there ever since. She was a 1939 graduate of Graveraet High School in Marquette. Aggie was previously employed at the former Heritage House Hotel in Marquette and at the Huron Mountain Club as a cook. Aggie had a vast knowledge of the history of Big Bay, the town she loved so much and never wished to leave. She loved spending time at her summer home on Squaw Beach and entertaining friends with her great food, her quick wit and her avid story telling ability. In her free time, Aggie loved to spend time in her garden as well as her kitchen where she would often try out some new recipe to share with her friends. She was a long time member of Community Presbyterian Church in Big Bay. She is survived by 5 children, George (Margaret) Ten Eyck of Cerritos, CA, Patricia (David) Harrold of Cohocton, NY, Mary (Jerry) Fraley of Halfway Location, Jeffery (Linda) Ten Eyck of Charleston, SC and Peter Ten Eyck of Big Bay; 2 sisters, Betty Haupt and Hazel Blankenfeld, both of Henderson, NV; son-in-law, Les Potter of Farmington, NY; also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a special family friend, Daniel LaCrosse of Green Bay, WI. Preceding Aggie in death besides her parents was a son, Larry Ten Eyck in 1974, a daughter, Sandra J. Potter in 2010; also siblings, Mildred Carafelly, Charles Swanson, Doris Price, Phyllis Burgo, Marion Fleury, James Swanson and Lawrence Swanson. Friends may call at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Thursday, April 4th from 3 to 6 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. in the funeral home with Mrs. Ten Eyck's son, Jeff Ten Eyck officiating. Burial will take place in the Powell Township Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are kindly asked to consider the Lake Superior Hospice Association, 914 W.
