Agnes Marie Wernsing, 96, of Bloomingdale, formerly of Effingham, died at 12:50 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Alden Valley Ridge Rehabilitation and Health Care, Bloomingdale. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham, with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham, with a 6:30 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to the church. Mrs. Wernsing was born Jan. 9, 1912, in Effingham, the daughter of Ben and Mary (Probst) Dettert. She married Harry H. Wernsing May 2, 1933, and he preceded her in death in 1999. She was a homemaker and member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham. Survivors include her sons, Tom (Jane) of Bowling Green, Ky., and Mike of Glendale Heights; brother-in-law, Leonard (Jeanette) Wernsing of Teutopolis; sisters-in-law, Florence Koester of Teutopolis and Anna Marie Wernsing of Effingham; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Louis Dettert.
