Agostino "Augie"
Mastroianni
Agostino "Augie" Mastroianni, 91, went home to with the Lord on Tuesday evening. Born in Calabria, Italy, Augie came over to America in his teens and made a life for himself in Waynesburg, OH. It was there he met his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Lucille H. (Marcelli) Mastroianni. Augie embodied the spirit of a true American entrepreneur. During his lifetime he owned many a business, bars, dry cleaners, clothing stores, always willing to try a new business venture. He will be most remembered however for owning one of the oldest restaurants in Stark County, Chicken Manor in North Canton. Now owned by his sons, Chicken Manor has become an institution for the greater Canton community always fulfilling his wishes for it to offer a good meal at a fair price for the family. Simply put, he loved the restaurant. That being said, Augie's true love was for his wife Lucy. Their marriage spanned nearly seven decades through good and bad times, but never without the deepest love one could ever imagine. Augie and Lucy had three sons, who along with their families were the loves of their lives. He also cherished the many, many friends he had throughout not only his businesses, but also the Canton YMCA. Augie was a man of untold generosity always willing to help others, but never wanting anything in return. He was born on July 17, 1916 to Frank and Elizabeth Mastroianni. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucille; three sons, Frank (Janet) Mastroine of Munroe Falls, Mario (Christine) Mastroianni of Kent and Daniel (Paula) Mastroianni of North Canton; grandchildren, Chris (Molly) Mastroine, Troy (Brandi) Mastroine, Djuna (Chris) Swing, Sean (Lori) Mastroine and Ashley, all of the Akron area, Holly (Joseph) Danza of Virginia, Nicole (Matthew) Johnson of Florida, Damon (Kimberly) Mastroianni of Mantua, Kevin (Jill) Mastroianni of Columbus, OH and Gregory Mastroianni of North Canton. Augie was also blessed to have 12 wonderful great- grandchildren, Celia, Lauren, Shane, Mackenna, Peyton, Austin, Alec, Madison, Brooke, Alexa, Aiden and Lucia. Friends may call Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at Rossi Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday morning 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Waynesburg with Rev. Fr. Joseph Zamary as celebrant. Interment will be at Sandy Valley cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church in Waynesburg.
