Alan Fournier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 17 to Feb. 18, 2011.
FOURNIER, Alan Peacefully, on February 15, 2011, of old age - - though it looked like he was going to beat that too, at age 92. Beloved husband of 62 years of the late Gladys Mae Pearce. Father of Christopher (Liz), Susan (George Charron), Robert (deceased), Alan, Thomas (Jean-Guy Desjardins), Ruth (Shawn Sweeny), Ann (Fred Meelker), and Mark (Deborah). Grandfather of Julia, Jennifer and Ann-Marie Fournier, Robert, Christine, Greg, and Bryan Charron, Jon Gustafson (Mel), Hasan and Mathieu Monfils, and Christopher, Harrison, Patrick, and Owen Meelker. Great Grandfather of Jack and Aidan McLaughlin, Olivia and Henry Cej, Charlie and Grace Bishop, Logan, Madex, Brooklyn, Preston & Jordan Charron, Spencer and Emerson Gustafson, and Bianca Tounkara . Son of the late Margaret and G. A. (God Almighty) Fournier, brother of Godfrey, and the late Frances, Betty, Bud, Ruth, and David Fournier. "Big Al" lived a full life. A Sandy Hill boy, he joined his father's business, Fournier Van & Storage as a lad, and later his brother Bud to build and then sell Moloughney's Van & Storage, after which, at 55, he retired with his beloved Gladys to their log place at Lac Pemichangan. Hail fellow, well met, he loved "to chew the fat". He was a Rotarian (and Chair of the Adventure in Citizenship) and a member of the Rivermead Golf Club for many years. An enthusiast, he liked a good argument, a good drink or two (until about 15 years ago), photography, gardening and music. A man of contradictions, he could be fiesty one minute, and emotional the next. H.A. was a devout Catholic, and looked forward to joining Gladys, Robert, Frances, Betty, Bud and all his other friends where, with the grace of God, he is now - having a party (for which Gladys will be late). Many thanks to the caring and dedicated staff of the Queensway-Carleton Hospital. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 2313 Carling Avenue (west of Carlingwood) Friday, February 18, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Saturday to Blessed Sacrement Church (194 Fourth Avenue) for Mass of Christian Funeral at 11:00 a.m.. In memoriam donations to The Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated. www.kellyfh.ca

I just found out yesterday that Alan had passed away. I am so sorry to hear about it. I had hoped to see him within the past few weeks, but unfortunately lost track of his address. I knew Alan for quite a few years. He was an awesome man, well spoken and enjoyed a good debate. I had the good fortune to meet him a few years ago for the last time, in Tim Hortons in Barrhaven. He was very kind to me on that day and I will never forget him. I am sure he is with Jesus right now...to his family, I give my condolences.

Dear Annie and family. Our sympathies. I have many fond memories of visiting your Mom and Dad in Sandy Hill, the cottage and then your Dad at your home. We will remember his keen interest in people and the world around him.

My deepest sympathy to all of Alan's children, to all my cousins and to Alan's only remaining sibling, dearest Godfrey. Alan and Gladys were at my wedding and we exchanged Christmas cards over these many, long years. I will remember him always as a strong and approachable man, so quick to laugh. Rest in peace, Alan. Love Ann (Hutchingame) Zavras and Harry Zavras from Australia

My deepest sympathies to his family, especially his brother Godfrey who will surely miss him and the many laughs they shared.

I had the pleasure and the opportunity to get to know Alan a little better over the last couple of years and have great memories of a few afternoons spent at Tim Hortons. Although I am unable to make the wake or the funeral, I will have an Apple Fritter and five large coffees in his memory today! Rest in Peace Great Uncle Alan!
