Betsy, what a thoughtful memoir commemorating your brother´s life. I know it was important to you to honor Alan, and you have done so. Our condolences for your loss.

One helluva an ode, Betz.
Alan was too genuine for lawyering.
He could make do with less better than anyone I ever met. The man could live out of a thimble.
I remember going for a bike ride with him around the hills of San Francisco and out to the Golden Gate bridge. For him, it was just a spin before dinner, but it nearly killed me.
For 15 years, we had a picture hanging in our basement of Alan holding a stop sign in front of his schoolbus.
The last time he wrote, he was planning to journey to South America for the hang gliding.

Thanks for sharing this sad news, and for the shout out, Betsy. Alan and I go back 30 plus years as friends. When he was living in the lower Haight and I was still single, we would go out after contra dances for a bite to eat or other escapades, then after he moved up here close to where I had lived since the late 70s, we kept in touch and he was in attendance at our wedding in `98, famously getting into an argument with my brother-in law-over partially cooked chicken. In later years, he would honk as he drove by our Graton home in the water trucks. I don´t remember ever discussing Woodstock with him, but it must have come up since I not only also attended, but Alan and I must have crossed paths there since I also hooked up with the Hog Farm and stayed the following week helping to clean up, and hang abandoned blankets and sleeping bags on fences to dry, etc.
Good bye old friend. Your presence and your smile will be missed.
