Alan Kelley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 20, 2025.
Alan Bernard Kelley, 62, of Salem, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at hospice care in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, following complications from a cardiac event. He was surrounded by love, peace, and the constant presence of family and friends in his final days.

Born on April 25, 1963, in Bethesda, Maryland, to Augustine Regis and Marie Therese Kelley (née Roach), Alan grew up in Maryland exploring the rivers and hills of the mid-Atlantic, where he developed a love for the outdoors. Alan spent much of his life in Ohio and truly embodied the Midwestern values of honesty, humility, and hard work. Alan built his career in the restaurant industry, where his kind and generous spirit translated into a talent for making others feel welcome.

An avid and lifelong sports fan, Alan cheered for teams from his native Maryland, especially the University of Maryland Terrapins, as well as from his adopted home of Ohio, particularly the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. Alan was a talented sportsman himself, fond of golf, bowling, and basketball. He was deeply passionate about the outdoors, finding great peace fly fishing along a tranquil trout stream. Most of all, Alan treasured life's simple pleasures and found his greatest joy in sharing quiet, happy moments with his family and friends.

Alan is survived by his loving children, Mark and Madeline Kelley; his devoted partner, Kristen Ehrhart; and his siblings, Kevin, Brian, Dan, Maura, Tim, and Sheila. He will also be remembered with fondness and love by his extended family and many friends who were always close to his heart.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Parish in Bethesda, Maryland, at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, July 25, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring at 1:00 p.m. A private reception for family and close friends will follow that afternoon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alan's honor to ChildFund International (www.childfund.org), a cause close to his heart.

Alan was a gentleman, kind-hearted and soulful. I will treasure his memory from childhood summers spent on Skeleton Lake in Canada. He had a beautiful laugh, a keen sense of fun and an adorable smile. He loved his family. My heart goes out to his children Mark and Madeline, his partner Kirsten and his dear brothers and sisters, our cousins, the Kelley family. Rest in peace dear Allan. Thank-you for your love. The angels sing your glory. Peace. Love. from Trish Lyons

I am very sad to hear that my good friend Al Kelley recently passed away. He was a jovial guy, kind hearted, with an infectious laugh! He trained me to bartend back in 1989 & we became great friends outside of work playing basketball, golfing, & getting an occasional milkshake after work at UDF. My heart goes out to his family & friends!

My sincere condolences to the family and everyone touched by Alan and his presence. He was a genuine friend, true renaissance man with many passions. He was most proud of his family and children. He will be greatly missed and forever loved. His laugh will continue to always make me smile.
