Alan Raymond Kuhlmann was born on November 29th, 1946, in Ute, Iowa, the son of Raymond and LuVern (Teut) Kuhlmann. He was baptized on December 29, 1946 and he later confirmed his faith on March 26, 1961, both at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. He attended St. John Lutheran School and Charter Oak – Ute Community School.

On April 4, 1970, Alan married the love of his life, Linda Holdsworth, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Irwin, Iowa. Together, they built a beautiful family and were blessed with three children: Trisha, Alaina, and Dustin. Over the years, the family lived in Denison for a short time before making their home in Charter Oak.

Alan's early years were marked by a strong work ethic. At the age of 9, he began working on the family farm, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion. He also worked for the Dorale brothers; helping them haul custom liquid manure. Beyond farming, Alan had a rich tapestry of interests that brought joy and fulfillment to his life. He was an avid collector of International tractors and memorabilia and he enjoyed attending the Clay County Fair every year.

Deeply grounded in his faith, Alan was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. In service to his congregation, he held various offices, served as an elder, and embraced his role as an usher for many years. His unwavering commitment to his spirituality was evident in the love and compassion he showed to all those around him. He found immense happiness in supporting and cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events and treasured cherished date nights with Linda in Storm Lake. Alan's love for his family knew no bounds, and his impact on their lives will be forever treasured.

Alan passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at his home in Charter Oak, attaining the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 4 days. He leaves behind unforgettable memories that will forever hold a cherished place in the hearts of all who knew him. His dedication to farming, unwavering faith, and love for his family will continue to inspire and guide us.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and LuVern Kuhlmann; parents-in-law, Vernon and Della Holdsworth; brothers-in-law: Kenneth Holdsworth, Dennis DeWild, and Randy Swensen; and nephew, Brian Elwell. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Kuhlmann of Charter Oak; children: Trisha (Michael) Steffen of Wall Lake, Alaina (Colin) Gierstorf of Schleswig, and Dustin (Megan) Kuhlmann of Woodbine; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister, JoAnn (Wayne) Elwell of Charter Oak; siblings-in-law: Don (Pat) Holdsworth of Harlan, Connie (Jerry) Ahrenholtz of Defiance, Tom (Julie) Holdsworth of Kansas City, Missouri, Collen (Roger) Anderson of Harlan, Becky DeWild of Shenandoah, and Carol (Tim) Whittaker of Letts; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation with Family Greeting Friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.
