"Coach" was a great influence on everyone he was near. I met him in 1959 and will never forget the 50 wildflower project or the way he treated everyone who went out for a sport.

Coach Olson was a positive motivator that inspired maximum effort and excellent performance. He was an influential mentor and role model in sports, academics, relationships, work, play, community involvement and being a man. He consistently taught and demonstrated the type of character and values that produced a student body that can and did say, then and today, "I'm proud to be a Bowman."

Al will always be a very important part of my life. His easy manner, work ethic and respect for his fellow man has become a strong influence in how I try to treat others. I have always looked up to and admired Al's ability to put those around him at ease with just his presence. It goes without saying that Al will be missed by his family and friends. I think it is also fair to say that the world will be a sadder place without Al in it. He was the type of man we should all aspire to be. Rest in Peace Al. You will live on in each and everyone of us. We love and will miss having you as part of our lives. Thank you for being such a loving and understanding man. You will always be a yard stick by which I will measure my success as a man by. With all of my love.

My husband and I were very blessed to meet and visit with Al on his many trips to Alaska. He was a wonderful man and will be missed. Our love and prayers are with you all.

"Coach" was one of the most influential people that I had in my entire life. He was my football and basketball coach at Sherwood High from 1954 through 1958. He also taught freshman science during my tenure. I really enjoyed his coaching style as he taught us honesty, integrity and perseverance which helped me develop into a responsible adult. I respected him as a person as well as a coach. I kept in contact with him either by phone or home visits during his retirement and really enjoyed visiting with him while rehashing our "old" times at Sherwood High. I will miss him.

Al played a big part of our lives growing up in Sherwood, Oregon. He was the Coach-teacher-counselor-athletic director all rolled up in one bundle. He was good to all the kids on the team no matter there skill level. Excellent mentor for the kids at Sherwood High School.
