Alan Schrader Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 7, 2025.
Alan Wayne Schrader, 76, of Gloucester, VA passed away peacefully on August 31st 2025 after a long battle with growing health complications. He was born on July 28th 1949 in Bradford County, PA to Floyd and Nellie Schrader.

Alan graduated from Towanda High School in Towanda, PA in 1967. In 1969 he joined the United States Army to serve his country until 1977. Alan was a Vietnam Veteran and earned various awards/ medals during his service. He was part of the 25th Infantry Division later to be nicknamed "Tropic Lightning" for their swift heroic actions during the war. After the military Alan held various jobs until he settled into his career as a long-haul truck driver until he had to medically retire in 2015. He then worked part time as a parts delivery driver for Napa auto parts until fully retiring in 2021.

Beyond his professional life, Alan had a deep love for fishing, family and westerns. He could often be found watching an old John Wayne movie he had already seen hundreds of times. A devoted family man, Alan cherished the time he spent with his loved ones. Usually pretty quiet but only because he was always intently listening. He was a role model for his children and a loving presence to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Robin Schrader; his sons John Ayers (with daughter-in-law Aimee Ayers), and Jamie Schrader (with daughter-in-law Jessica Schrader); his grandsons Leland and Norman Ayers; his granddaughters Rebekah, Olivia, and Ava Schrader. He is also survived by; his brother Dale Schrader, and sisters Jill McNally, and Judy Schrader. Alan was preceded in death by his parents; Floyd Schrader Jr. and Nellie Schrader, as well as his sister MaryBeth Randall.

No memorial service will be held per Alan's request.

Alan was my dad, I will miss him tremendously. I love him SO much, there will definitely be a special place in my heart reserved for him. His memories live on in all who knew him. He was a hero, a loving husband and a great father. I am honored to have called him "My Daddy."
