Alan B. Whitaker, 89, of Lake Suzy, Florida, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 25, 2010 Charlotte Harbor Health Care in Port Charlotte, Florida. Born on September 24, 1920 in Delta, Pennsylvania, Alan grew up in Binghamton, NY and served as a fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for IBM in Endicott, NY before founding Crown Industries in Owego, NY. After a successful business career, he retired to Ft. Lauderdale in 1970, and relocated to Charlotte County in 1991. He was a devoted husband to his deceased wife, Esther Fitzmartin Whitaker for fifty-two years and a loving father to three children. Alan is survived by his wife Margaret Whitaker, and his children; Alan B. Whitaker, Jr., Pamela Whitaker Bradham and husband Casey, Candace Whitaker Kelly and husband Timothy, as well as grandchildren; Albie Whitaker, Kellen Bradham, and Corey Bradham.
