Alana Lagerhausen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2024.
Alana M. Lagerhausen, a 32 year resident of Hermosa Beach passed away on August 29th, 2024. She passed peacefully while at home with her favorite view of the ocean and her loving family by her side.

She was born in Chicago to Paul and Eileen Kerrigan.

A self-proclaimed Navy brat, she moved around depending where her father Paul was stationed. Eventually settling back in Chicago, she attended Austin High School and Columbia College.

She married James Lagerhausen on November 21, 1968. They had two WONDERFUL sons, Jamie and Brian. They later divorced.

She was fierce and courageous as one of the few women in the 1980s who traded commodities on the male dominated floor of the Chicago Board of Trade.

She also had a penchant for renovating old buildings and a vision for reviving them back to life.

It was a longtime dream of Alana's to move to California.

After relocating to Hermosa Beach, she continued to renovate properties and started a career in the movie industry.

She expanded her love of animals, especially horses and rescue dogs, into time spent helping animal adoptions.

Alana was a vibrant, strong, independent woman and wonderful mother who was also fortunate to become a loving grandmother. She liked a challenge, loved animals and did things her way all the way to the end.

She is survived by her two sons Jamie (Susan Levin) and Brian (Oyuki Lopez and grandson Kaiser), cousins Nancy, Jim, and Lois.

She is also survived by her faithful dog Bella and James Lagerhausen, who not only was her ex husband, but life long best friend until the end.

A celebration of Alana's life will be planned at a later date.

One of my memories of your mom is when I was young, she taught me how to ski up at Wilmot. I don´t remember the circumstances of how I got to tag along because I know it´s a lot of work to take a kid who´s never been on skis before out skiing. She took me to the bunny hills and showed me how to snowplow and how to hold onto the rope to pull myself back up. I got to ski a few more times with my dad when he was with the Boy Scouts and by the time I got to high school, I was able to join the ski club and hang with my friends. I have a lot of fun memories from the ski club and knowing how to ski all started with your mom.

We´re sorry for the loss of your mom and please accept our condolences.

I met Alana at the Skunk Hollow Ski Club in Chicago about 1964. She caught my eye immediately being very pretty with a beautiful smile. We enjoyed many weekend ski trips to Boyne Mountain in Michigan and also skied locally at Wilmot Mountain.
I remember the first time she came to ski Aspen in Colorado. She flew in alone because I was already there with my ski buddies, Nick and Herbie. That following week we all had the best time of our lives hanging out and having so much fun skiing together. When her departure day came at the end of the week, I drove her to the airport but I had a hard time getting her to board her flight. She didn´t want to leave and started crying. She was hooked on skiing!
We had a wonderful time together, eventually marrying and raising two boys, Jamie and Brian.
Later in life, during a winter trip to Tahoe with Brian and our grandson, Kaiser, we would ski together again.
Without realizing it at the time, this would be the last ski trip for us both.
I will miss you, Alana.

Sorry to hear of Alanas passing, I spent many a day through the years getting to know her in the alleyway behind her house, at first she would test me by placing her shrub clippings in my trash can in front of me, I figured her out very quickly it was a test who's going to own that alley, she looked at me and said is it ok and I just said yep just don't fill it up. Well that was all it took we became buddies, I earned the right to argue and debate her , if you could hold your own you had her respect and friendship, there was things you earned from her that not many people knew or maybe wouldn't take the time to understand, im going to miss that old gal, its good to earn things in this life it gives it value. Vios Con Dios friend. Bill the handyman

I feel blessed to have met Alana around 1995. We had a common interest in that we both traded on the exchanges in Chicago. That bond only strengthened when she let me know she was the "sister" of my good friend Jamie!! (Boy am I naive!) Everyone´s lives are enriched through the people we meet and interact with. I am thankful for Alana!
