Alasdair Nairn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 13 to Jan. 14, 2006.
NAIRN _ Alasdair Graeme Husband, father, son, brother, friend, wit, optimist, mentor born in Quebec City, P.Q., died Thursday, January 12, 2006 in Calgary, Alberta at age 48. Alasdair was a bright spark who warmed all he knew with compassion and humanity and intrigued all he knew with a capacious store of knowledge and curiosity. He will be greatly missed by his wife and best friend, Sandra and their two sons, Geoff and Graeme, as well as his mother and father, Norma and George Nairn of Sidney, brother Steve (Cindy) Nairn of Victoria and sister Lynda (Steve) Holroyd of Sidney, BC. Also left to mourn are his "adoptive" brothers, sisters and Mom of the Gaunt clan, cherished nieces and nephews and very dear friends who scattered the rose petals of care and devotion before him on his long journey with brain cancer. Our boundless appreciation to all of those capable, caring, compassionate people of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Foothills Hospital and ultimately the Rosedale Hospice involved with Alasdair's - and Sandra's - care. To each and every one of you, we salute. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Calgary Foundation, 900, 833 - 4 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2P 3T5, or the World Wildlife Fund, 410 - 245 Eglinton Avenue East, Toronto, ON M4P 3J1. A Memorial Service will be held at Hillhurst United Church, 1227 Kensington Close N.W., Calgary, AB on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. PERSONAL ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL SERVICES 7016 Farrell Road S.E. For too short a time I enjoyed Alastair's company.

He has always remained one of my favorite people.

He was a mentor and an inspiration to me.

In my mind I clearly see his teasing skeptical smile and hear his joyous burst of laughter.

I would like to send my wishes of comfort to Sandra, Geoff and Graeme, and all of those who loved him.

Our names may be unknown to you but we knew of Alasdair through the Tom Baker Centre when Our Daughter Kelly was being treated for a GBM at the same time as Alasdair in the spring of 1999. She was here from Ottawa on the same trial programme as well.

May we offer you our sincere condolences in your loss.We know only too well what it's like to lose a loved one. Kelly's journey lasted for two more years upon her return to Ottawa.
