Albert Bensie Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 29, 2025.
Albert Bensie passed away August 21, 2025 at home in Merrill, Oregon with wife Julie Letzo Bensie by his side. He was born January 25, 1929 in Redbird Portage, PA to Joseph and Mary Bensie. Albert graduated from Portage Township High School in May 1946. Too young to enter into the service, he worked until enrolling into the Army October 1946. Honorably discharged in 1948; he enrolled in Penn State.

Staying involved with his military service, Al was a vital member of the Merrill VFW, serving as Quartermaster.

On December 11, 1976, he married the love of his life-- Julie Letzo-- whom he reconnected with after many years apart, both growing up just a quarter mile away from each other.

Albert was a dedicated electrician, servicing many farmers, ranchers and home builders in the Klamath Basin. An avid fisherman and hunter, he and Julie took many trips to Eastern Oregon, where he was able to tag numerous elk and develop a variety of elk-camp stories. He was preceded in death by his parents and his 12 siblings. Al is survived by wife of 48 years, Julie, numerous nephews, nieces and many friends. Special thanks to Dawn and Mark Trotman, Merry and Bill Farley, Mason and Jill Haynes, and Mike and Kristy Reynolds.

There will be a Rosary Saturday August 30 at 10:30 am at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Merrill; Mass will follow at 11:00 am. Luncheon will be served in the parish hall following burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Augustine Church, PO Box 340 Merrill, OR 97633.
