Albert Crawford Obituary

Albert Crawford sadly passed away at the age of 94 on January 12, 2018 in Sarasota, FL.
Formerly of Englewood, FL, but born in Manchester, NH, his family moved to Kittery Pt, ME where he attended Traip Academy and later went on to Plymouth Business School and UNH for studies in architectural drawings.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, Jan 17, from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at Toale Brothers Funeral Homes, Colonial Chapel, 40 N. Orange Av., Sarasota, FL with a funeral service to follow at 2:00PM. Burial will take place in Orchard Grove Cemetery, Kittery, Maine.
He owned and ran a successful lobster business on Badger's Island in Kittery, ME, shipping lobsters all over the world until he sold his business and was able to retire at the age of 55. He then retired to Englewood, Florida with his wife Dot.
During his years in Kittery, ME he chaired the Kittery School Committee for many years, participated in Lion's Club, and was an avid tennis player. He was very involved in real estate properties and land development throughout most of his life. Upon retirement he spent many days golfing at the Myakka Country Club, enjoying his home on the water in Englewood FL.
His passion was skiing, and he shared that with all his children. As well as numerous sports in which he involved his whole family.
Al is survived by his wife, Dorothy Crawford. Al's (4) children and their spouses, Steve and Cathy Crawford, (Newtown, PA) Nancy and Geoffrey Piken (Sarasota, FL), Patrice and Rick McDaniel, (Sarasota, FL) and Matthew and Polo St. Jean (Gorham, ME), and his step-son Jeffrey and Carol Allard (Dover, NH), his grand-daughter Chloe Crawford (Englewood, FL), Michelle Jarvis (Washington DC) and Jeff Allard, Jr. (Rochester, NH) as well as 5 other great-grandchildren.
Al was pre-deceased by his grandson, Adam D. Ayer (Boxford, MA).
His final resting place will be in Kittery, ME, next to his father, mother, brother and sister.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association.

I am very sad to hear about Al's passing. I remember fondly my husband and me, along with Al and Dot, biking throughout the Maine and New Hampshire seacoast and hiking and backpacking in the White Mountains of NH and Baxter State Park in Maine, during the 1970's and 1980's. Al was an enthusiastic fire builder and when hiking always insisted on a well-made fire for the noon meal, filling the clear mountain air with smoke and heat! When I think back to that time of my life, Al and Dot are a large part of the fun times we all shared.
