My Deepest Condolences to the Joannette family,
I have only admiration and fond memories of Mr. Joannette .....out of respect, he is still, and always will be, Mr. to me. He was, in my view, the quintessential leader, and as others have mentioned....firm, fair and faithful.
Mr. Joannette was also an important person in my faith formation; the greatest gift that I could be given. I will pray to our Lord and our Blessed Mother for his soul and for his family's comfort.
Sincerely,
John

I just finished reading the tributes with a tear in my eye and a smile on my face. Albert was definitely well loved and respected. He was the epitome of a great leader: Fair, Firm and Friendly. It was a pleasure to work with him. Not long after I started to teach at LCCHS we teachers went on strike. As we were out on the picket line Albert opened the window of the staff lounge and handed us hot chocolate and hot coffee. Much appreciated! When my daughters were born he gave me a gift from Birks. A silver baby spoon with a rounded handle. On the card he had written, "So little Alberta will be born with a silver spoon in her mouth". Adorable! Thanks for the memories Mr. Joannette!
(So sorry we were out of town for the celebration of his life.)

Both of us had the good fortune to be hired by Albert to teach at LCCHS and our time spent at the school with Albert at the helm were some of the best years of our careers. When we heard about Albert's passing, we had to pay our respects to a wonderful, compassionate, unassuming giant of a man, who gave his best to his staff and his students, not to mention his family.. We have been blessed to know him and will always remember him fondly.

"SERVICE" to the school, the students, the individual and unconditionally to God. Albert continually pushed and inspired me. He wanted me to be more than a teacher. For very large events like the Quebec Prov BB Championship, Albert pulled me aside and made me an offer I couldn't refuse: "you're organizing it" and I couldn't refuse. He had more confidence in me than I ever knew I had. He wanted me to teach creative writing, What ? Creative writing, he had every confidence that I was cut out for this. I stuck to Phys Ed. When a position opened for Phys Ed co-ordinator at the school board Albert said put in your application. What ? Again he knew something I didn't. He always knew the people around him, all their strengths and abilities. At one time he personally drew up the teaching packages for every single teacher and doled them out to us. He knew everything, he was everywhere and he knew who he wanted to teach which subject at which grade levels. Like a clone of Habs GM Sam Pollack, Albert was crafty. He'd get the personnel he needed and wanted. As like US General Arnold Swarczkof of Desert Storm Albert used "Shock and AWE" as a strategy. He always had a plan. Abuse your rights to the locker area, Albert put up bars around the lockers. Make wet wads of paper to through with the toilet paper,no more toilet paper, "bring your own". Smoke in the washroom stalls, Albert removed the doors. There was always a quick response to resolve an issue. And he was always there for personal support. Even you didn't request it butu needed reassurance he'd call you in his office for a chit chat and you'd leave with a better understanding of self and your environment. And God was always mentioned. We're all forever grateful that God placed Albert in our midst for he made us all better and the best we could be. Sincere condolences to the entire family.

What a wonderful man. It was a privilege to have worked for and learned from such a principled individual. St. Peter is a much happier person at this time knowing, with full confidence, that he can relax when Albert is in charge of the gates to heaven. You didn't get much by Albert. But with his sense of humour he could be very creative with the methods he devised to show constant support his staff.
We all cherish the stories that are told and retold every time staff come together.

We knew Albert as your loving brother, brother in law, uncle and great uncle. The love he had for his family was undeniable... "his family was truly the centre of his life". Reading these pages speaks to the fact that Albert was loved by many and will remain forever in their hearts. We too will miss him.
Our deepest sympathy.

Albert Joannette was, for me, a man of God. He had no fear in making it clear through his conversation and actions that he believed and allowed his life to be guided by God.
He knew how to discipline you, when you made a mistake. And he disciplined with kindness and a wee bit of humour. I should know as I was the recipient of this service twice in my role as Pastoral Animator at LCCHS from 1982 to 1994!
With his death I have lost a true witness of what it means to be Christian but I have also gained my own personal saint - and what a saint!

Dearest Judy, Paul, and the Joannette family,
We came to know Albert as your brother, brother in law, uncle and your great uncle. Most certainly the love and caring of his family meant a lot to him. "The centre of his life".
Reading the loving words left for him on this page, it is clear that Albert remains in the hearts of so many and will always be remembered. We too shall miss him.
Our deepest sympathy.

I was so saddened to hear the news of the passing of Mr. Joannette :(?
He touched so many lives and my deepest sympathies to his family, friends, former students, and faculty. He was a beloved principal with and strong voice in education in an era where the education system was all about following ardent rules within a changing culture. Mr. Joannette had a unique ability to see the different shades of grey and relate to each student and faculty in order to get us to perform at our best.
The first time I met Mr. Joannette, I was called down to the principal office for an insignificant infraction in Grade 4. Sitting outside his office, I had visions of getting the ruler, writing 1000 lines or being expelled…lol! Instead…he called me into his office and asked me how I was adjusting to the transfer from another school and if I had made any friends? 40 minutes later I walked out his office feeling like it would be a “sin” to ever let him down and I can accomplish any goal. I remember my grade 4 spelling bee and it was easy to spell principal of a school instead of principle because Mr. Joannette was my pal and pal is the end of word principal.
I was so blessed to have him as an elementary and high school principal. I always cherished our conversations and the safety and trust in his leadership.
Mr. Joannette your legacy is you have touched thousands and we are passing on your message to younger generations. Thank you for your passion to education and making our world better :)

I have only the fondest of memories of Mr. Joannette as my principal at LCCHS. He was a true leader, a warm yet stern man, who impacted thousands of lives. That's no small feat! Our time on this planet is short - his contribution was vast and will forever remain in the memories of those who worked with him, were taught by him, and who shared his life. Thank you Mr. J.

My condolences to the Joannette family. He was my principal at Leroux and LCHS. I Remember him in the tumultuous and interesting 60ies as a tough and fair man. A great administrator, especially after he came back to LCHS, to put the high school back on track! Whenever his name is mentioned in my circle of high school friends; it is with awe and respect. He was not very big in stature, but cast a giant shadow wherever he went. He left an imprint on many of his students.

To Judy and family, my heartfelt sympathies for your loss.
He was an inspiration to me and a wonderful educator. We go way back to his St. Willibrord days where I was one of his "hockey players" and to his short-lived career with the City of Verdun where I helped administer the summer recreation program. We regained contact several years ago through e-mail which went back and forth and I had hoped that we would get to meet in person as per his invitation to St. Bruno. Unfortunately our re-union will be delayed to another time and place! My thoughts and prayers are with Albert and you; his remaining family.
May God bless you all,
Paul Nowlan

Mr. Joanette was my principal at both Leroux and LCH. He was very dedicated to his students. I can think of several of us who would have turned out quite differently were it not for his intervention. I am saddened by his passing, but his time here was well served.

Dear Judy: Albert gave my husband, Allan Reid and myself, Jeanette, our jobs at LCCH in l969. A year later, he found us our first house across the street from his home in St. Bruno. He supported us in every way possible. After retirement, we kept in contact and last summer Albert hosted me and my brother, Rev. Bill LaFlamme, CR. He took us to a restaurant in St. Bruno. Albert is not gone from us. He traded- in his suffering body for a glorified one. His spirit remains. Allan died at the same age as Albert. They were both amazing student and staff mentors. I pray that Albert and Allan rest in peace. Amen

Dear Judy,
Your brother, Albert, was the most thoughtful human being I ever met in my whole life and to me personnaly, the best boss I ever worked for. I will remember him as kind, strong and always in control of any circumstances, I will remember his selfishness, his generosity. I always felt secure in his presence and the décisions he made. We could always rely on him at any time for advice and to be comforted. He was a GIANT and a reflection of God's presence in our world of turmoil. He will always be in my prayers and I believe that if I need support I know he will be there for me.

Mr Joannette was at first glance, scary.
When you or I should say, when 'he' got to know you, he was very kind, sensitive, helpful, caring & inspirational.
He was a strong force in my 'high school years'.
He was very patient, loving & respectful.
Being a parent now, I so much respect & admire the guidance I was given.
Mr Joannette......Thank you so very much for taking the time to guide me, and so many others.
You were so instrumental in helping me become the woman I am today
God Bless You
May You Rest In Peace

It's sad when anyone passes from our lives; however, particularly sad when someone who was dedicated to youth leaves us. Mr. Joannette was the Principal of LCCHS when I attended High School. Although people come and go in our lives, I always remembered Mr. Joanette as a dedicated teacher and principal. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and to every student who ever came under his protection and leadership.
