Albert Noreen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 14, 2002.
NOREEN JR., ALBERT T., 81, of Orlando, FL, former McArthur raider died April 11, 2002. He graduated from Edwards Military Academy in North Carolina, where he was Valedictorian "The Value of Military Training to Youth". Col. Noreen enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. After basic training his first tour of duty was with Army Specialized Training Programs in Fargo, North Dakota. He was promoted to Corporal and became a squad leader in the 42nd Rainbow Division in Oklahoma. In 1946, after OCS at Fort Benning, Georgia, he returned to the Rainbow Division as a 2nd Lieutenant. He then was sent to Fort Benning for Jump School, Advanced Airbourne School, and Pathfinding School, and Jump Master School. He was next assigned to the 13th Airbourne Division which was absorbed by the 82nd All American Division. In 1948 he was ordered to Tokyo for the occupation of Japan. After six months with the 1st Marines, Capt. Noreen was assigned to the Japanese Self Defense force to teach Airborne Tactics and to learn the Japanese language at Narashino, Japan. In 1956 he was assigned to Army Intelligence, Far East Dask, in the Pentagon and promoted to Lt. Colonel. He retired from the United States Army in 1964, in Falls Church, Viriginia, where he became City Zoning Administrator. In 1976 he moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, where he became the President of AARP for three years, joined the Redland Club, V.F.W., American Legion and the Senior Center. Col. Noreen is survived by two daughters, Sarah Noreen and Marybeth Marlow and five grandchildren in Front Royal, Virginia. A Military funeral will be held at Culpeper National Cemetery at a later date. Death came to me when I became worthy of it. So my last request is to celebrate by hosting all attendees to food, drink and merriment, realizing that I have triumphed over the vicissitudes of life, and am in the arms of Jesus.
