Albert Powers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 17, 2025.
Carlisle - Albert L. Powers, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 14, 2025, surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, June Powers, and was the loving father of Holly Motasky (Jay) of Naugatuck, CT, Cherie Higgins (John) of Uxbridge, MA, and Heidi Robinson of Greenville, NH. He was also predeceased by his longtime partner, Deanna Stillings. Her children, Bambi Giles (Dave), Dawn Travers (Tom), Charles Stillings (Paula), Dean Stillings, and their families were also an important part of his life.

Al was the youngest son of Charles T. Powers and Florence. He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. Grampy will be missed by his grandchildren, Jonathan Higgins (Deb), Konin Schaffel (Sam), James Motasky (Laura), Victoria and Dakota Robinson, and his granddog Jayla. He was Great Grampy to Aleena and Caleb Higgins, Emma, Hallie, and Noah Motasky, and Khyree Robinson. The family thanks Al's caregiver, Lydia, for her compassion, kindness, and resilience in her care for him.

Al attended elementary school in Springfield, MA, the Rhode Island School for the Deaf, and a one-room schoolhouse in Canterbury, NH, near his family homestead. He graduated from Tilton-Northfield High School in 1956. Al attended the University of New Hampshire, Dartmouth, and Cornell, where he earned degrees in Biology, Biochemistry, and Education. Al was a Shell Merit Fellow and a Tandy Scholarship recipient. His teaching career included positions at New Hampton School, Brewster Academy, Timberlane Regional HS, and many years at Concord-Carlisle HS, from which he retired. Al was very proud of his 34 years of volunteering with the Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle until June of this year.

Many will remember his stories of growing up on the homestead in Canterbury, NH, his love of sailing on Lake Winnipesaukee, playing bridge with the "Carlisle Crew", hosting football parties, and playing practical jokes of all kinds on friends and family for which he became infamous. He enjoyed trips to Alaska, Canada, Scotland, and the Isle of Skye.

An interment will be held at Green Cemetery in Carlisle on Friday, June 25th at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at the First Religious Society of Carlisle from 11:00 to 2:00. The family asks that memorial gifts be made to the Albert L. and June B. Powers Scholarship Fund at https://www.thescholarshipfundofcc.org/.
