I knew Professor Forcadas at the University of Alberta; while I never took a class with him, I knew him from my time at the Language Labs. He would often stop by to chat and have coffee with my colleagues. He had such a twinkle in his eye and such an energetic way of being and speaking. ...I was sorry to read in the Globe and Mail of his passing; it was his photo that caught my attention - those eyes - I immediately recognized Alberto from his eyes.

I am saddened to hear of Alberto's passing. We were colleagues for 30 years at the University of Alberta. I have fond memories of happy moments we shared, and I remember Alberto as a fun-loving person with a generous nature.

Yesterday April 9 at 2:00pm in Calgary, I picked up a recent Globe and Mail and saw the obituary notice. I remember being in his very first class 1966 when Kat and he first arrived from the US. Katherine Govier, writer and many others in the class didn't know what to make of this neatly dressed gentleman in the sub zero temperatures of Edmonton! At our Spanish Club events, he was most appreciative of our "rosquillas" even though most of the time we had no idea what he was saying! I went on to be recommended by him to teach in Spain with his brother picking me up at the airport in 1970 folks! What a shock walking the Ramblas with him and understanding nothing! All my U of A Spanish classes were with Dr.Forcadas and eventually I taught Spanish myself! I would love to hear from Kat in California and recall when she called him "forky". She was a riot and so pretty we all thought! We could not understand back in the'60's what he was doing in Edmonton but I guess he came to love the place that put him on the map.

Alberto was a good family friend since 1984. He is the godfather of three of my children. He helped me with my Spanish for several musical translations, some of which received worldwide acclaim. I will miss my friend Alberto and was glad to visit him at Lynnwood right up until his passing. Our most heart-felt condelences to his family.

Professor Forcadas was the funniest, most interesting and memorable Professor I have ever had--and I've been through 8 years of full-time university studies. He was also one of the most intelligent people I've ever met.

I'm so thankful for having had the chance to know him.

Sincerely,

I've met Alberto in 1982 while working at the U of A Language Labs. It was always a pleasure to talk to him. He was lively, curious & very personable. His "linguistic" sense of humour was unique. He was a good friend, generous with his time & resources. I will always remember Alberto and miss our connection.

I will never forget how Professor Forcadas "illustrated" the Spanish vowel sounds for us in class; something about a wife bringing home a new fur coat and all of the husband's "remarks" at that: aah, eh? eee, ooh, uuuuu!
Prof. Forcadas was funny, always helpful, interesting, entertaining, extremely knowledgeable and much liked as a person and a professor.

Thank you for encouraging and inspiring me.

To the family of professor Forcadas:

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your dear ALBERTO. He was my Spanish professor back in the early nineties when I returned to university as a part-time student. I relied on his spirit of generosity and his expertise to edit many a paper and exam used in my own teaching. He never refused a single request of mine for assistance and guidance. For this, I will always remember him with fondness and deep appreciation.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sincerely,
Angela Padovani (nee GRANDE)
