LONICH ALEC
85 died peacefully, Monday, May 4, 2009. Mr Lonich was born in Monongah, West Virginia a son of the late Sam and Mary Kruel Lonich. He retired from USX Corp in 1986 as a craneman working at the Donora Zinc Works and also Duquesne Works. Mr. Lonich was a US Army Veteran serving in the 148th Combat Engineers. His service included the Battle of Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, and Ramagan where he helped to build the bridge across the Rhine River to get to Germany. Mr. Lonich was very proud to be a United States Veteran. He was a Life Member and Past Commander of VFW Post 977 Donora, and the American Legion Post 391 Fredericktown where he had over 64 years of continous service. Past President of Donora AARP, and the Steelworkers Union. Mr. Lonich was preceded in death by a son James R. Lonich , a sister Dorothy Torporcer, and a brother Dave Lonich. Surviving are his wife of 61 years Dolores M. Kogler; 3 sons David W. (Arlene) of Donora; Sammy P. (Nancy) of Fallowfield Twp; and Thomas A. (Kim) of Washington, Pa 4 grandchildren Elise, Brandon, Ian, and Jarrett; Kristen and Peyton and one Sister Mrs. Joseph (Hazel) Smolec of Bentleyville. Friends will be received on Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the JAMES A. RABE FUNERAL HOME INC. 701 Thompson Ave. Donora where a blessing service will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev Michael Yaksick and Rev Albert Koser officiating. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. Family and friends may view the obituary and offer online condolences at
