Alec Sacuta

SACUTA, Alec On Monday, April 20th, Alec Sacuta passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Good Samaritan Southgate Care Centre at the age of 83. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy, and five children Alan (Lindy), Janet (Terry Clovechok), Paul (Rosalind), Norman and Gordon (Kristina), as well as eight grandchildren (Courtney, Nikki, Natalia, Emily, Jason, Clare, Tess and Zoe). He is predeceased by his parents, Norman and Olga, and three brothers, Conny, Bill and Nick. Alec was born in Lahwa, Poland in 1925, and traveled with his mother and three brothers to Canada aboard the Mauritania in 1933, to rendezvous with his father in Stettler, Alberta. He and his brothers worked the farm, near Byemoor (which is still operated by his brother's family) until he left to pursue university studies. In 1952 he graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and married Dorothy Anderson in Medicine Hat in 1954. He worked for various companies in Regina, Edmonton, Montreal, Winnipeg, and Calgary, and in 1968 he joined the Alberta Research Council. He retired from ARC in 1987. Alec loved the farm, and loved the activities and beauty of the lakes and mountains of Alberta. Alec was the centre of his family, and much loved, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him or had the privilege of being in his company in the last 83 years. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Good Samaritan Southgate for their excellent care during Alec's time with them. They would also like to thank Dr. Paul Grewal. In keeping with Alec's wishes, a cremation will take place with burial at a later date in Byemoor, Alberta. A Memorial Service will be held at Hainstock's Funeral Home, 9810 - 34 Avenue on Friday, April 24th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Southgate Care Centre, 4225 - 107 Street NW, Edmonton, AB T6J 2P1.
