FURMAN, Aleksander
Passed away peacefully at the age of 94. Beloved husband of 57 years to Genowefa, loving father of Alice Bochus (Paul) and Diane DelZotto (Frank), devoted grandfather of Monica, Michael, Alana and Robert. Fondly remembered by nephews Zenon, Ryszard and Darek. Survived by two brothers, three sisters, and many nieces and nephews in Poland. Aleksander was predeceased by younger sister Helena (2006), brother Jozef (2007) and sister Jozefa (2014). Aleksander was born in 1923 in Blazkowa, Poland and at age of 19 was taken under guard to work in a labour camp in Westphalia, Germany from 1942 to 1945. When liberated, Aleksander worked for the British military in forestry in Germany. Officials from the League of Nations advised that he could come to Canada to work in forests, farms, mines or construction. Aleksander chose to work in forestry and immigrated to Canada in 1948 under contract to Ontario Hydro in Renfrew. In 1951 he moved to Lac St. Jean, Quebec where he worked on a Hydro plant. In 1953 Aleksander moved to Windsor and soon obtained employment with Chrysler and remained with the company for 33 years. Aleksander was very active in the Polish Peoples Home Association (Dom Polski) for over 60 years during which he served in various capacities including recording secretary, treasurer and on other committees. Aleksander faithfully attended Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church. on Sunday, October 1 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with prayers at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass was held on Monday, October 2, at Holy Trinity Polish Catholic Church, at 10:00 a.m. Interment was held at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In kindness, donation may be made to C.N.I.B. Aleksander was an avid reader and inspired all by his dedication to family and community, his devotion to faith, his deep passion for history, geography and current affairs. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly.
