Alex Beaton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 3, 2017.
With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Alex Lawrence Beaton on September 29, 2017, in Antigonish. Born in N.E. Mabou, on December 8, 1939, Lawrence learned at a young age the value of family and of hard work on his family's farm. At aged 17, Lawrence went to Elliot Lake, Ontario, to take up hard-rock mining, where he discovered his natural leadership skills and ability to meet or exceed production demands. Having met his future wife while visiting his beloved Cape Breton home, Lawrence and Mary married in 1964, at which time they took up residence in Massachusetts. Lawrence eventually pursued the carpentry trade, first as a union carpenter in Boston, and then as a residential home contractor in Massachusetts and, for a time, in Cape Breton. Carpentry was a natural match for Lawrence, and he followed this trade with joy and passion for over 50 years. Lawrence loved his family and made them and their welfare the center of his life. His deep faith in Christ and his kind and honest nature earned him the respect of many. Lawrence is predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary; his parents, Angus Dan and Jessie Beaton; his brother, Neil, and sisters, Anne (Beaton) and Kathleen (Hayes); and his nephew Kevin (Gillis). He is survived by his daughter, Gail (Peter), and his sons, Curtis (Antoinette) and Christopher (Melanie); his grandchildren, Amanda, Alex, Alyssa, and Audrey; his brother, AJ, and sister, Mary Catherine (Gillis) as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 5th, from 2 to 4 pm, and 7 to 9 pm, in Port Hood and Area Resting Place, Port Hood. The funeral mass will be held at Saint Joseph's Parish, S.W. Margaree, on Friday, October 6th, at 11 am, with Father McDonald Ibah officiating. Interment will follow immediately afterwards in Saint Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Martha's Regional Hospital Foundation or the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation of Canada.

My deepest heartfelt sympathy to all the family. Lawrence was a pure gentleman and a person I held dear to my heart as was Mary dear to me and great memories together. A wonderful couple who helped me out immensely and am forever grateful. May you rest in peace together now in the place you called home. God bless all your family.

My deepest condolences to the loss of your loved one.

Lawrence,

I will always be grateful for the time spent working and socializing with you and your son Curtis. Your expected work ethic and manner have stayed with me for over thirty years and I hope to pass them along. Thank you.

I am also very blessed to have reunited with you and Curtis this year, I think the big guy upstairs might have had something to do with that.

Sincerely,

James, Jenn, Jacqueline and Ryan Welch

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Larry at a store we work on together in Waltham (Massachusetts).
We had a lot in common enjoyed our lunchtime talks, always full of laughs.
He was a proud father who loved his kids. God Bless him as I was blessed to have met him.

I'm so sorry to hear of the death of your loved one and my deepest condolences are extended to you. Something that's helped me through the death of loved ones is to reflect on 1 Corinthians 15:26.

I first met Larry as a subcontractor on one of his jobs many years ago. A real nice, honest and stand up guy. Then later on I got to meet his son's Curtis and Chris in Waltham Mass. They also have the same fine qualities as their dad. RIP Larry my good friend !!! <3
