My dad and I on the farm in Hatton, Mo. in 1951.

Dad, thoughts on your passing from your son, Gary. Yesterday on the way to work, I was thinking about how to capture what my parents, and especially my father meant to me. I kicked the idea around on the internet to see if someone had captured in a single sentence what I was feeling. I found something relevant from Jim Valvano, who wrote, "My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me." I realized that it was that belief in self and strong encouragement from my family, especially my father, that allowed me to take the risk, to go off and join the Army, travel to places that were, in some cases, best left alone, and do some things that are written about in action thrillers, all of this was wrapped up in the mission to provide the accurate intelligence that the leaders of our country need to make the right decisions to keep all of us safe. Mom, Dad, thank you, your belief in me got me to where I am now!! You were the best!! Love, your son, Gary
