Alex J. Weiss, 2 months shy of 102.

Beloved husband of Bonnie. Loving father of Jason (Julie) Weiss, Hillary Weiss (Paul Oglesby) and Gordon Weiss (Angela Zhao). Proud grandfather of Sloane Weiss, Sheridan Weiss, Henry and Avery Oglesby, Holland Weiss and Adira Zhao Weiss. Dear brother of the late Julius Weiss and late Eddie Weiss. Born to immigrant parents in 1923, Alex was raised in Chicago and graduated from Lindblom H.S. He enlisted in the army during WW II and then earned an engineering degree from UMichigan on the GI Bill. After graduating, he entered the cutting edge business of that time: Air Conditioning. Early in his career, he pioneered and patented a technique to keep patients cool during heart surgery. He later founded his own HVAC company, Thermodynamics, which became renowned in Chicago for complex projects, including Lake Point Tower and several Mies Van Der Rohe high-rises. Alex married Bonnie in the late '60s. Soon after, he co-designed and built his dream home, a unique and distinctively modern house in Winnetka, where he and Bonnie raised their three (spectacular) children. He left the HVAC business in the mid-'80s and began a new profession in real estate investments that kept him busy until he was well over 100. Alex loved to explore other cultures and traveled the globe with Bonnie. He consistently donated to worthy causes, particularly those defending civil liberties and fighting antisemitism. He generously helped anyone who asked for guidance with their business or investments. Alex was an innovator, an opportunist, a lifelong learner, a mentor, a storyteller, a force of nature, a survivor, and an inspiration. Most importantly, he was a loving and beloved husband (of 57 years), father, grandfather, and friend.
