METHUEN — Alexander (Sonny) Buonanno passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008 after living with cancer for the past six months, with his family by his side.
He was born in Montecatini, Italy, and came to this country at the age of 2 years-old. Sonny lived his younger years in Lawrence, attended St. Patrick's Grammar School and was a 1963 graduate of Central Catholic where he played on the football team. Sonny also worked for Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, was also a City Constable for seven years and worked Big Brother Association. For the past 20 years he and his wife owned and operated Hayes Tavern on South Union Street in Lawrence.
Sonny enjoyed life, has many friends, liked playing golf at Merrimack Golf Course, bocce ball at the son's of Italy where he was a member. But most of all he loved traveling, going to beaches and the White Mountains with his wife and their daughter.

Brenda,
We are so sorry to hear about Sonny's passing. He was a larger than life type of guy who had many friends. He will be missed. But I'm sure he must be in a better place, smoking a cigar and playing 45's, bidding 20 and hoping his partner has the 5.

When someone we love passes away,
We ache, but we go on;
Our dear departed would want us to heal,
After they are gone.
Grief is a normal way to mend
The anguish and pain in our hearts;
We need time to remember and time to mourn,
Before the recovery starts.
Let's draw together to recuperate,
As we go throught this period of sorrow;
Let's help each other, with tender care
To find a brighter tomorrow.

Dearest Brenda and Lori; My heart is broken for your loss. The world has lost a great man and I grieve with you. I know my grief, so I can't imagine what you must be feeling or going through.
I will hold on to 34 years of fond memories. I am grateful to have been able to call him my friend and in my heart, he was my brother. He will live forever there.
