GASPAR, Reverend Alexander 1932 - 2018 It is with sadness that the family of Alexander Gaspar report his death in Saskatoon on January 26, 2018, after a heroic battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). A memorial service in his honour will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at 2 p.m. in Knox United Church, Saskatoon. Al was born in Toronto, Ontario. He was predeceased by his father Alexander, his mother Eszter (nee Bone), his sister Elizabeth, and brother Joseph. Mourning him are his wife of 51 years, Irene (nee Roberts), his son, Kent, daughter Jennifer Kerr, and grandchildren Danielle and Cameron Kerr. Al is survived by his brother Emil (Peggy) of Squamish, BC, brother John (Judy) of Toronto, and sister-in-law Betty Gaspar of Aurora, Ontario. Surviving nieces and nephews include: Susan Smith of New Market, Ontario, David (Rene) Gaspar of Invermere, BC, Patricia Gaspar (James) of Barrie, Ontario, Kimberley Gaspar of Saskatoon, and Peter (Rose) Gaspar of Hamilton. After an initial career in advertising, he went on to higher education at McMaster University. He was a teacher before being called to ministry. Al also completed a degree at Berkley. He later received his Master's of Sacred Theology degree at Andover-Newton Theological Seminary. Al served pastorates in Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, Boston, Winnipeg, Burlington, Saskatoon, and Eston. Al had the capacity to make a full, rich life in whatever circumstances he found himself. In retirement he completed a BFA degree from the U of S. He painted several large-scale murals and his works are featured in Persephone Theatre, Toronto General Hospital, and numerous private collections across North America. Al mentored in the emerging artist program, CARFAC Saskatchewan. He was the first art director of the SCYAP program serving at risk youth in Saskatoon. Those of us who had the fortune to share in his journey, will miss him deeply. Be at peace in the "Everlasting Arms".
