All of us at Alondra Park Chess Club will miss Sandy tremendously. I've attached my only encounter with Sandy, which ended in a draw. A very good game played by Sandy!

I am saddened that we lost such an great, kind, and wise man. Alex was always a pleasure to be around and converse with. He taught me a few things that I never knew before about chess, bagpipes and especially life. Alex was always smiling and always interested in whoever he was talking to. Every conversation was always geared towards the person he was talking to and not about himself. That is a lesson hard to learn in life, but he knew how to teach it by example. I am overjoyed that he is with our eternal Father in peace and happiness, but I will miss him here on earth.

We are eternally grateful to Sandy. We first met Sandy at Alondra Chess Club, but that was only the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Sandy was the most articulate person we knew-his words were brilliant. Even so, he would always be looking to learn from others as much as he could, whether it be new chess openings or how we were doing in school. Sandy has shaped us to be the young women we are today and will forever hold a place in our hearts.

Alex Hamilton to most, Sandy to me will live on - through his words, through his deeds and the innumerable ways he has touched lives. In my almost half century of existence, can count on my fingertips people who have impacted me as much as Sandy. Sandy was much more than family to me. I am eternally grateful to Sandy and also to Chess as it was through Chess that I first came to know Sandy. Being relatively new to the country and California, Sandy reached out to us with a pure desire to help by offering educational counseling to my daughters with no expectations . Sandy was always there for us - I could reach out to him for guidance on the smallest of things and his advice helped us navigate the biggest challenges. He had deep knowledge, amazing clarity of thought and above all, a heart of gold which only wished the best for us. Ad Astra, Sandy. You will be missed very much as our world is not the same without you.

I knew Alex for over 18 years and he was a delightful patient who was always happy, curious, and engaging. We had wonderful, intellectual discussion of books, history and museum exhibits. I appreciated how encouraging he was. He always he took a personal interest in me and asked about my family. He was very special.

Alex was my first AP, back in 1993. I remember his quirky nature and his sense of humor. He seemed to have a saying, or factoid for just about every situation. Alex was a truly unique individual and will be missed

Wishing my deepest condolences. Mr. Hamilton/ Alex was my first assistant principal. He became a cherished friend, provided me with the confidence I was lacking as a new teacher and left an indelible mark on my life. I am so saddened to know of his passing and so blessed to have 28 years of fond memories, including him playing the bagpipes at Stella's wedding, his nominating me for Educator Excellence, and meeting Charlotte Rae with him at Pippin. He was the best! I will never forget him. Edith, I will keep you and his family in my prayers.

Alex will never be forgotten! We went to visit Timea and Alex and the hospitality they showed was beyond our expectations! Both Timea and Alex made us feel like at home! At the time when they showed us the room Alex said " in this house we have no air conditioning" just to see our reaction, we are from Florida and in Florida you can´t be without it. Alex will be missed! The heaven has gained a true angel because Alex was not just another ordinary man you meet, he had an extremely good heart, a man who would do everything to help and you felt the selfless act of kindness you don´t see today. We are so blessed that we knew him and cherish his memories! Timea will remain in our thoughts and prayers! Sympathy to the whole family.

Dear Edith... I am so sorry to hear of Alex's passing. You 2 were certainly the perfect match. I remember meeting him somewhere along the way at work event(s) we attended...and there were many of them ... having some dinner, drinks and lots of laughter. I remember him with a quick wit and lots of wonderful stories. He certainly led an interesting full life. There's nothing I can say or do to make it any easier or lessen the pain. Just know I will be thinking of and praying for you . Take Care, Vickie

Our thoughts and prayers are with Edith and Alex´s loved ones.
I fondly remember Alex´s kindness and hospitality when I lived in New York, offering a ride back home when Edith and I were working late, or hosting me for tree trimming gatherings during the holidays. And always regaling us with some interesting thought or tidbit.
May you rest in peace,
