Alexander Markoff Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 22 to May 23, 2015.
Alexander (Alec) Markoff 1926-2015

As Alec was taking his leave, it was with immense gratitude for his family and for a life he felt was a gift. His legacy to his much loved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren is the example of a life lived with passion, intellectual curiosity, creativity, hard work, generosity and above all integrity. A celebration of Alec's life will be held in the Toronto area in late July.

Alec was the beloved husband of Mary Rose for 67 years. She was the love of his life. Although she is unable to attend the celebration, Rose and Alec's children, Rosemarie (Wayne), Michael (Elaine) and Karen Fortin, and their families, together with his brother John Markoff, will honour his memory. Alec was predeceased by his daughter Kathryn, son-in-law Alvin, and brothers Mark and Joseph.

The family will be forever indebted to the exceptionally compassionate and caring staff and volunteers at St Joseph's Hospice who cared for Alec with respect, dignity and love. Memorial donations may be made to St Joseph's Hospice P.O. Box 1449 Station B London On, N6A 5M2

Condolences and inquiries about the celebration may be sent to [email protected]

It was a pleasure working with Alex while he was in Edmonton. All the staff gatherings that we had at their house and restaurants hold wonderful memories, especially his homemade baklava. Our condolences to Rose and the family.

Dear Rosemarie, Michael and Karen, on behalf of myself, Aunt Betty, Al, Lynne, Steve and Shawn, we just want to say how sorry and sad we are at the passing of Uncle Alec. I always appreciate a person with a sense of humour because I believe that is a true reflection of who they are. Uncle Alec was a genuine and sincere individual and I will forever miss this funny man who always made me smile during those rare times that we had the privilege of being together. Our thoughts and love are with you all.
