Al was always there - at anytime after 3:00/3:30 a.m. Arizona time - to answer my call to talk about business, personal matters or just to say hello.

We first met rolling out Brooks Brothers stores across Canada and spent many days and nights over the years in New York, Las Vegas, Toronto and Vancouver going from 30 minute meeting to 30 minute meeting with Landlords on the ICSC trade show floor and it never failed to amaze me how much people loved him.
Walking along the aisles of the show with Al was like walking with royalty. People were constantly coming up to him to shake his hand or to recount how he had given them their start in the business or had been there to coach them during their time together.

He was a Legend!

He beamed confidence, empathy and personality. That big warm smile and his twinkling eyes were contagious.

He´d come up to Toronto annually for Joe Carter´s Golf Tournament and always make sure that I was there to meet him (our local hero).

Al introduced me to Snoop Dog! How did Al know Snoop Dog???

And, while I am not an avid golfer like Al, he always ensured that when we were together we played. It was his favourite time. While we rode together we´d talk about family and by the end of the round I´d have figured out how to solve all of my problems.

I loved his jokes and he never repeated one of them. I could never understand how he remembered so many of them?

I´ll miss him and I know that anyone who knew him will too.

Bye Al. You were the best!

Our Dear neighbor just shy of a year, yes we played golf , we shared good food, I was honored to prepare the best baby back ribs he ever ate, and we know he was a world traveler. We enjoyed great conversation with fresh blueberry muffins and strong coffee. We are envious of those that knew Alex for a life time. We are blessed that he called us his Friend. One of my favorite conversations with Alex, he shared a poem with me. The Man In The Mirror Written by D. Wimbrow 1934.
We miss you so !!!!

We feel blessed to have shared life with Al the past 7 years that our children have been together. We could not ask for a better father-in-law law for our daughter, or a better son-in-law for us. Al always had a welcoming smile for everyone he came in contact with and a great story to fit any situation. I will miss golfing with him and the great conversations we had, as well as the free golf lessons. He had that special gift of always helping the people he had contacts with to realize how special they are. We are grateful for his legacy that lives on through his children and grandchildren as well as the many lives he touched during his lifetime.

Right about now Al is enjoying the great golf courses in heaven. His eyesight is 20/20, he is strong and he's smashing the ball down the middle. If contributing to others in this world makes it easier in the afterlife, Al will enjoy heaven to the fullest. Sinking putts and making friends for eternity.

My cousin, Al McCullough, was truly special and very much like his father before him, just with a different set of challenges and opportunities. I´m so greatfull to have reconnected with him in recent years. Together we published a book,"McCullough Stories" in tribute to and as something of a love letter to family past and present. His reputation as a warm, wonderful man is well deserved.
