Alexander Patrick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 16, 2018.
Vancouver - Al Patrick passed away on February 7, 2018, at the age of 94. He is survived by his wife of 68 years (Pearl); sons Lance and Lyndon (Ronilda) and grandchildren Vincent, Alex, Alannah, Isabel and Maria-Clara. Al grew up in Saskatchewan during the hard times of the depression where he had to leave school before he graduated to take any job that came his way in order to make ends meet. In the late 1950s he came to British Columbia with his wife Pearl to look for new opportunities. Influenced by Pearl, a school teacher, Al completed high school by correspondence and then obtained a BA and a teaching degree from U.B.C. Al would then work as an English teacher and eventually a counselor at Templeton Secondary School in East Vancouver. Al enjoyed working with the students at Templeton and his goal was to help his students graduate. Outside of school Al invested in real estate, traded stocks and enjoyed travelling with Pearl in their motor home. Al's strong handshake and outlook on life will be missed by all that knew him. Always remembered never forgotten.

Mr. Patrick you will be missed by many. You were an inspiration in my school days as well as gave the tools to many of my fellow students that they use today. You taught us all well. RIP there Sir.

My great uncle Alex or better known as just uncle Alex was my grandpa John's brother . I spent summers at grandpa and grandma's farm at Togo sk it was always exciting when uncle Alex and aunt Pearl and Lyndon would come out to the farm in their motor home. It was always interesting listening to grandpa and uncle Alex tell stories of old . Like the time the two of them cleared a chunk of land by hand so they could farm it we still go to that clearing to this day and talk about it .My parents and my brother traveled to vancouver numerous times when we were kids to visit uncle Alex and aunt Pearl they had the coolest house in town they were always so hospitable . I admired uncle Alex very much so much so I took a tip from him in later years about a hot stock on the market and bought in needless to say I'm still working lol. The last time me and my wife and kids saw uncle Alex and aunt Pearl was about 10 years ago .My cousin James Sylvester was getting married we stayed at their place it was just like old times only now I was the parent my kids thought their house was so cool just as I had when I was a kid .To this day we still talk about that visit especially the kids because for every meal Uncle Alex would disappear and come back with a bottle of ginger ale the kids were in heaven pop for breakfast dinner and supper our deepest .sympathys and condolences go out to u aunt Pearl Lance and family Lyndon and family sorry we couldn't be there and to u uncle rest in peace until we meet again

My Uncle Alex saved my life . I remember my mom and dad and Uncle Alex and Auntie Pearl all went to Harrison Hot Springs for the day. My dad and Uncle were walking to the deeper end of the pool and I thought I would follow but unfortunately the water was getting deeper and the next thing I knew I was in my mother.s arms. Later when Uncle and dad came back my mom started telling them I almost drowned and that is when Uncle said he was the one who had brought me to her. She was so upset she did not realize it was her very own brother that saved her daughter's life. Uncle I will never forget you To Auntie Pearl Lance and Lyndon and families I want to send our deepest condolenses. wish I could be there on this day but it not being possible. May God Bless and keep you all. Rest in peace Uncle kisses and hugs to all

One of the very few teachers that I'll never forget. As my counselor he kept me in school and brought me back down to earth and for that I'll always be grateful! Thanks for all you've done Mr. Patrick and sticking by me....RIP.

My Uncle Alex and I often relived a time when I was about 1 1/2 yrs and my cousin Yvonne about 2 1/2 yrs old were at a family gathering and we were playing under a dining table and Uncle would wiggle his fingers at us as though something was going to get us, kept us giggling and under the table for who knows how long. I've had many visits at their home enjoying their great company and meals. He will be sadly missed but forever in my heart and memories

My uncle Alex

The memories of uncle Alex were very much of a family man who looked after his family and friends.

One day back in 1960 he bought a new Impala and drove to Cranbrook to visit Metro and Mary Wicheruk. Then as a boy of five years I saw that car as the most beautiful slide ever. So after everyone had gone into the house I climbed to the top of that 1960 Impala and slid down the rear glass and onto the trunk lid then off the bumper. It was quite a ride.

Imagine what you might do. At that time uncle just taught me not to slide on cars, but to wash and wax them. The interior was for sliding and sitting.

I believe my uncle and my dad were best friends because of the stories I heard. For example my uncle was a true marksman, he would be given one bullet to go and shoot dinner, and he didn't fail.

I will fondly remember and miss my uncle.

As one of the many many students who knew and loved Mr Patrick from his days teaching and counselling at Templeton Secondary School, I just want to express what a wonderful person he was. I had the opportunity back about 2010 to reminisce with Mr Patrick while looking over my 1973 Grad Annual. We had a great time! All those years later, he still remembered all of the faces and all of the names. Mr Patrick, now gone... but never forgotten.
