PIERCEY _ Alexander George Arthur 1913 - 2002 Alexander George Arthur Piercey passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on August 12, 2002 at the age of 88 years. Alex was born at Calgary on December 10, 1913. He graduated from Crescent Heights High School in Calgary and in 1936 received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta. In 1939 he went on to achieve a Masters degree. He worked in the oil and gas industry in Turner Valley from 1938 to 1954 and again from 1961 to 1966. He worked in Kamloops, B.C. from 1954 to 1961. In 1966 he returned to Calgary. He pursued a second career in Real Estate from 1971 to 1987. He was made a Life Member of The Engineering Institute of Canada in 1982 and a Life Member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta in 1986. Alex was an avid Bridge player, curler, trout fisherman and rock hound. He and his family enjoyed many times together in the outdoors, most recently at the Alpine Resort Haven in the Rocky Mountains. The family home on Udell Road was a wonderful home to all for many years. On July 14, 1943 he married Mary Irene McDonald, who in 1994 predeceased him. They shared more than fifty years of magnificent times whether fishing at Emerald Lake or traveling to visit family in England, Norway and Scotland. Alex was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a loyal friend to many. His life was full and he provided a strong role model to all, especially to his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered by his three children and their families, Dr. James Piercey and Patricia Walter of Victoria, B.C., Dr. Pat and Erik Gauer of Dalbo, Norway, and Bruce and Frances Piercey of Calgary; as well as his twelve grandchildren, David, Suzanne, Vanessa, Chad and Amanda Piercey, Katrine, Marte, Nikolai, Mathias and Alexandra Gauer, and Chris and Andrew Walter. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Polly and Graeme Howarth and by Dr. Maureen Piercey of Vancouver. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Crowfoot Chapel" (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Monday, August 19, 2002, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Brent Trask of Bow Valley Alliance Church officiating.
