Alexander ZUBKO Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Sep. 27 to Sep. 28, 2014.

ZUBKO, Alexander
July 17, 1940 - September 22, 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Poppa, Alexander Zubko, on September 22, 2014 after a brief hospital stay. Alex joins his wife Elizabeth almost four years to the day of her passing and leaves behind three daughters: Tracy (Patrick), Katrina (Martin), and Alexis; grandchildren Dianna, Aly, D'Asia, Claire, Matthew, Genevieve and Markus; as well as his siblings Colin, George and Vera. Alex dedicated 32 years of his life to the Army Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada (Vancouver). This dedication led to him serving several terms as President and he was the current President of ANAF Kingsway Unit 100 before his passing. His friendly smiling face as well as his tireless work there will be missed by his comrades. Alex was known for his work ethic, putting in 35 plus years working at BDL.This work ethic could be attributed to the fact that he and his siblings were raised on a farm in Ontario. He was a devoted father and husband who worked tirelessly and with great modesty to provide for his family. In his spare time, he would often escape to "the shack" in Parksville and spend time fishing in his boat. Many family get- togethers at the Zubko household would usually include a CFL or Canucks game on TV, and if the home team scored, Alex's cheers could be heard throughout the whole neighbourhood. Whether it was renovating, installing hardwood floors or a new deck in his homes, Alex was not one to sit still for too long. Never too shy to converse in his native tongue, Alex took pride in speaking Ukrainian and even Russian whenever the opportunity arose. While he is no longer with us in this physical realm, his strength and his devotion to his family and friends will forever be an inspiration. Not just to them, but to all the lives he touched. He is once again reunited with his beloved wife Elizabeth. Poppa we love you. You will be missed, but never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, any donations may be made to ANAF Kingsway Unit 100 (address below). Memorial Service to be held October 16, 2014 (at noon) at ANAF Kingsway Unit 100 – 2211 Kingsway, Vancouver, B.C. V5N 2T6.
