1934 ~ 2018
Alexandra Wells Oveson (Alix) died of ovarian cancer on the 21st of August 2018 at the age of 84. She was born in New York City to Melvin D. Wells and Virginia Campbell Wells on the 14th of July 1934. She spent most of her growing up years in Salt Lake City living on the avenues with numerous loving and supportive family nearby. She attended the Lowell school where she made lifelong friends. She graduated from West High School and attended the University of Utah.
In the summer of 1955 she went to Los Angeles to work for the summer and met another summer transplant named Richard Oveson (Dick). At the end of the summer she returned home for more school but shortly thereafter she went to work as a stewardess for Pan American World Airways, flying to the Far East. Dick went into the Air Force and they reunited in California in 1957. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on 30 August 1957. Not willing to interfere with her friends' plans for Labor Day, Alix died just before their 61st anniversary.
Alix was a wonderful Air Force wife, following her husband from assignment to assignment. Their children were born in Alaska (Virginia), Boston (Merrill) and the Air Force Academy (Alice). Alix was comfortable with Generals and Ambassadors and with the ladies who helped around the house and tended the kids - she treated them all the same. In 1976 they returned to Provo and BYU. Alix played bridge and golf with a group of women whom she dearly loved and raised the children. She was a Sunday morning single mom for most of 19 years and the children owe their church activity to her. She loved Lake Powell, was a great snow skier (she taught her husband and all the children) and played golf with Dick three weeks before she died. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints all her life, filling callings in small branches and wonderful wards and stakes. She was the mission mom for 450 plus missionaries in the Bordeau France mission from 1992-95 and she was an assistant to the matron of the Provo temple from 2004-07. She continued to bless the lives of our missionaries until her death.
Alix is survived by her husband, Dick and by her children, Virginia Frye (Kevin), Merrill (Andrea Ault Oveson) and Alice Huber (Phil), fourteen grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with one one the way. She leaves a wonderfully and universally faithful posterity. She is preceded in death by her mother and father and one brother.
We express our love and appreciation to wonderful neighbors, friends, ward members, medical staff and hospice nurses. We have been overwhelmed with kindness, love and a desire to help. As Alix put it in the hours just before going through the veil, "It's wonderful to have the funeral before you die!"
Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 25th at 11:00 a.m. in the Sherwood Hills chapel located at 345 East 4525 North in Provo. A viewing will be held Friday evening August 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Nelson Family Mortuary located at 4780 N. University in Provo and again from 9:30-10:30 Saturday morning at the Sherwood Hills ward.

Alix was one of a kind and a delight to all. I remember her with happy memories and lots of smiles. My prayers are with her family and the grief they will feel at her move on to her next adventure, but we know she will always be with them in their hearts.

Dear Friends

We've always considered the Oveson Family as great neighbors and wonderful examples of Gospel living. We shall remember Alix with fondness and respect for who she was and how faithfully she supported all of you in your greatest dreams and aspirations.

We are currently in Hawaii on Hurricane watch as we await our travel to SAMOA to serve a mini-mission to Children with Special Needs or we would be there during this time of bereavement.

Aloha and Alofa

Dick, My sincere condolences for your loss. Alix was lovely and gracious woman. I remember meeting you and Alix a couple of times in Provo, with my parents, Gerald and Jane Meiling, who you met during your overlapping years together in Boston. My mother passed away in Salt Lake City in Sep 2009, and my father passed away in the Galopagos Islands in May 2017, but was buried at home next to his dear wife in Salt Lake City. We miss our loved ones, but have hope through the Atonement of Jesus Christ that we will see them again. My parents had great love and respect for you two; I am sure Alix and Jane are chatting away in heaven! Kind regards, John Meiling

To Alice and Merrill, your mom was so cool! I was lucky enough to benefit from her hospitality while we were all in high school and college. I am so sorry that she's gone. I'm praying for your family and hope that you're all feeling at peace with the wonderful legacy she has left.

I remember her as a very warm and gentle Mission Mom. I'm grateful to have served under the Oveson's kind and uplifting leadership, if only a short time.

Dick:

So sorry to read of Alix's passing. There probably aren't many of us left here in the Cambridge area who will remember her. I'm certainly one who does.

What a wonderful life and legacy! I'm thankful to have known Sister Oveson, and consider it Divine Intervention that allowed Kim and I to visit with her and Dick just a few weeks ago. I will always be thankful for her kind, direct, and humorous counsel! :) She will be missed.

Soeur Oveson was a mission highlight. We cherish the fun memories we have of her. She saved me and Soeur Nadir from black mold in La Rochelle. We wish you peace and love Président Oveson.

Alex will be missed by many! I will miss her quick wit, wonderful comments and insights in Releif Society, and her smile! She was always quick with a smile and a kind word. I know that she has been lovingly attended to by her wonderful husband and family. I also know that she is now being lovingly attended to by those who passed through the veil before her. This knowledge helps in dealing with the sorrow that I feel, but her absence will be felt for many, many years to come. It does make me smile, however, when I think of Alex catching up with those sisters that went before her; specifically Adrienne and Iris! I love Alex and I will miss her.

So sorry for your loss, Président Oveson. Soeur Oveson was a great mission mom. She'll always have my thanks for putting washers and dryers in the missionary apartments! Hugs from Soeur Beck (1994-95).
