Alexey Daniels Kanwetz, 71, passed away at his home, January 14, 2012 after fighting cancer for the past nine months. Alex was born to Estelle S. Daniels and Alexey Kanwetz in Eastport Long Island, New York.

He was most proud of his induction as a Fourth Degree Sir Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 7322, as well as Church Director and member of the Honor Color Guard of Council 7322. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Manogue Assembly 612.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his wife, Olivia. He is survived by his children Catherine, Alex II, and Brett Kanwetz, grandchildren Alex III, Nicholas, and Samantha Kanwetz, Ryder and Wyatt Haag, and sister-in-law Antoinette Martinez.

I contrbuted greatly to Alex's success and honors on the football field because I spent my entire junior football season as his blocking and tackling dummy during practices. He was a very talented and graceful athlete, and a great hearted guy as well. Most of us Reno High boys were crushed when Alex won the beautiful Olivia's heart. They were wonderful together. Our condolences to Alex's children, grandchildren, and extended family.

We all grew up with the big Russian bear. Skiing and hiking and the fun social events were always a blast with the Kanwetz family. We will always enjoy the fond memories of Alex and his hearty laughter and great humor. Our prayers are with you during this reflection of a great man! Tony Capurro and The Capurro Family

Catherine, Alex and Brett: You may or may not remember the "early" days when your loving parents were raising their young family (you) across the street from my parents while residing on Grand Canyon Blvd. I was the teenage girl which you, Catherine, always sat in the living room window watching me practice the baton and/or going out on dates, asking your mother each 'n every time, "What is a date?" Do you remember?

Your parents always had the time and a smile for everyone . . . several years later your mom followed me by working at the Reno Police Department; was she ever popular and well-liked!

Through the years your dad would come across my acquaintance and always had the time to shine his winning smile, reminisce with me and give me a BIG bear hug.

Kids, be proud of the way your parents raised you and of their dedication to the "family unit" all of which is now your legacy!

Dad will sorely be missed by family and the community.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Blessings always,

Wendy Dickson Knorr

he generously, offered my family a boat ride in fantastic antique yacht 4 years ago.
I always mentioned his basketball talent to him always hitting shots fm the outside before lumbering back down the court. i watched every game. loved him, he was a star, but liked us common students anyway.

Dear Family of Alex & Olivia,
You have my sincere sympathy in the loss of your Dad, Alex. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I was a first cousin of your Mom, Olivia. Our Dads were brothers. She was a much loved cousin since we were children. I wish she would have lived longer so that in the years after retirement, I could have seen and spent some time(s) with both she and Alex.

Hopefully, time will permit me to be present when you bury your Dad's ashes next to your Mom's in Arroyo Hondo. This past Fall, my brother, Fernando drove me to visit your Mom's gravesite. In my family room, I keep a photo of Olivia with my Uncle Fernando.

Fondly,
Mariano

I had a thoroughly enjoyable experience working with Alex at Capurro, Voss & Associates, and I had the pleasure of running into him on seemingly coincided trips to Raleys on Mayberry!! Anyone could see that everywhere Alex went, he had friends. Alex, I will always remember your wonderful sense of humor and the time you took to teach me during the years we worked together. My sincerest sympathies go out to the Kanwetz families. May you find comfort in your many memories of Alex.
