Avon By The Sea - Alfred Jude D'Auria (Al) of
Avon by the Sea, NJ passed into eternal life on Thursday, April 11, 2024. He was born on April 24, 1941 in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Judge Alfred P. D'Auria and his wife, Frances (Hayes) of Jersey City, New Jersey.
Al is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Veronica (Ronnie) Comey, their two daughters, Kathleen D'Auria of
Avon by the Sea, NJ, Megan D'Auria Fales and her husband Ross Fales of
Avon by the Sea, NJ, and three grandchildren: Ross, Caroline, and Leo Fales.
Also surviving are his five nephews; the "Kenny boys": Thomas, Kevin, David, Patrick, Christopher.
Alfred is predeceased by his parents, his brother Peter D'Auria, his sister Judy Kenny and her husband Tom Kenny.
Alfred grew up in
Jersey City, NJ, and attended Dickinson High School. He then went on to Fairleigh Dickinson University, earning his bachelor's degree. He then earned his J.D. from Howard University in Washington DC, before starting his career as an assistant in the Hudson County, NJ Prosecutor's Office. During this time Alfred also served in the New Jersey Army National Guard.
After getting married in 1974, Al and Ronnie moved to
Avon by the Sea, NJ, Where they lived with their family for nearly 50 years. Once in Avon, Al left the Prosecutor's Office to join the law firm of Schibell & Schebell, in
Asbury Park, NJ, before opening his own practice in 1984. He proudly served as the Municipal Court Judge in
Avon by the Sea, NJ for over 30 years, retiring in 2015.
Alfred, Dad, or as he was sometimes affectionately called "Big Al" or "the judge" or more recently "Pop" was a larger than life man who could light up a room. He loved people, talking to them, and telling stories. Al was a man of great integrity as well as unwavering loyalty. He was always willing to stand up for what he felt was right and help those in need.
A lifelong season ticket holder, Al loved watching the NY Football Giants, though he could often be heard yelling at them. He was also an avid Yankees fan and could be seen wearing his hat proudly, as he drove to get his papers and coffee every morning.
Most notably Al was wholeheartedly devoted to his family and his faith. He very much loved his entire family and would do anything for them. Al was an active parishioner in St. Teresa of Calcutta parish and specifically Ascension Church. Big Al will be missed by many.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 16th at 11:00 AM at Church of the Ascension in
