Alfred Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 14 to May 15, 2023.
Alfred "Al" Dewey Miller, of Coupeville, Washington, passed into eternity on May 12, 2023. He was born November 21, 1942, in Dexter, New Mexico

Born to hardworking seasonal farm laborers, Al grew up in many places, and carried that nomadic spirit with him into adulthood. From New Mexico to Oklahoma to Oregon and on to Alaska, Al followed his dreams of owning property, working hard, and raising a family. He and his wife Jan raised 7 children in Loon Lake, Oregon, and spent thirteen years living in a logging camp on Admiralty Island in Alaska. In 1999, he moved his family to Whidbey Island, WA, where he remained for the rest of his life.

Al was a self-described wild man who had a deep zest for life. He loved classic cars, roller coasters, rodeos, and horses. If he wasn't playing his fiddle or guitar, then you could find him trying to rope anything or anyone in his path. He enjoyed many things, but nothing gave him more pleasure than holding a new grandbaby in his arms. Al will be remembered for his tenacity, his deep compassion for those in need of a helping hand, and his ability to stay young at heart.

Al defined success as living a life of integrity that glorified Christ, and having a family that would remain steadfast and supportive through all of his flaws and shortcomings. Well dad, we think you made it to the top!

Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Miller, and parents Lorene and William Dewey Miller. He is survived by his children, James Miller (wife, Diana Miller), Sheryl Rountree (husband, Doug Rountree), Scott Miller (wife, Shannon Miller), Rebecca Miller, Laura Miller, Jessica Derksen (husband, Stan Derksen), and Michael Miller; grandchildren, Abigail Miller, Jeanette Miller, Jeremiah Miller (wife, Halee Miller), Kessandra Miller, Sarah Rountree, Christopher Rountree, Elizabeth Miller, Jerusalem Miller, Julia Derksen and Emma Derksen; great grandchildren, Zephaniah Miller, Charlotte Miller, and a third great grandchild on the way; sister, Debbie Robinson; and brothers, Rick Miller and Orville Miller.

A celebration of his life will be held at Hillside Evangelical Free Church: 874 Plantation Dr., Greenbank, WA, on Saturday May 20, at 1:00 p.m.

Dad! Every year I get a reminder that your angelversary is approaching, but just you. Not mom. You always did strive to be center of attention. We love you, Dad! Miss you so much.

Your dad always made us laugh! One of my favorite memories was a sleepover with Becky and all of the girls were putting toppings on our ice cream. In comes Al and tops his vanilla ice cream with a huge squirt of yellow mustard! He was successful at grossing us all out, and he ate the whole Bowl! I will always remember him with a guitar in hand

The phone call of your passing was so shocking and it sent sadness all through me. I just couldn't believe it was so soon after Jan's passing. The lord had plans for you both to be together in a higher place. No more suffering for you two here on earth. I just know you two joined Dad and Mom in Heaven and having a great time with all our lost ones up there. You two will never be forgotten and your memories will be forever in all of your family's hearts here on earth. Love you both!

You never did waste any time, Dad. It gives me such peace that you´re with Mom. But damn, this is so hard. Love you. Miss you! So glad I got to see you.
