Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday (1-14-13) for Alfred A. Perfett M.D., Hazen Road, Sharpsville, PA, who passed away peacefully Wednesday (1-9-13) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. He was 87. He was born on July 18, 1925 in Sharpsville, PA, the son of Anthony F. and Lucille Williams Perfett. A lifelong resident of Sharpsville, he graduated from Sharpsville High School. Following graduation, Alfred served his country with the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a Radioman, 2nd Class. He graduated from St. Francis College, Loretto, PA, where he earned his Bachelor's of Science Degree. Alfred served as President of his senior class and was a charter member and officer of the Omega Phi Chi Fraternity, life member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, and member of Student Council. He studied Biochemistry at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pa. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine in 1955. His residency was served at Magees Women's Hospital from 1961 to 1964. Dr. Perfett was certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Perfett returned to the Shenango Valley where he began a successful medical practice that lasted more than 4 decades. Over the course of his career Dr. Perfett delivered 5528 babies. Dr. Perfett's faculty appointments included: Clinical instructor and Teaching Fellow at the Department of Obstetricts and Gynecology at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine. He also served as Chief Resident at Magee Women's Hospital from 1963 to 1964. Dr. Perfett was active in the community and served on the Mercer County Cancer Society Board of Directors, the United Fund of Mercer County Board of Directors, the Catholic Social Services Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine. He also served as Chief Resident at Magee Women's Hospital from 1963 to 1964. Dr. Perfett also served as president of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Alumni Association. He is survived by his sister, Rose Mary Hattrup, Franklin Park, PA; and 19 nieces and nephews; 52 great- nieces and nephews; and 22 great-great-nieces and nephews who he loved and treated like they were his own children. Dr. Perfett was preceded in death by three brothers; three sisters; and two nieces. Dr. Perfett's family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Joseph's Church 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146 or Buhl Park Corporation 715 Hazen Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148. Calling Hours: 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday (1-13-13) and 9:30 to 10:30 Monday morning in the J. BRADLEY MCGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. My sincere sympathy goes to the entire family. Dr. Perfett delivered all three of my children. He was the best doctor I ever had or will have. I have the greatest memories of him and always will. You were the best!!!!!!
