Sister Alice, a Sister of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary who celebrated 75 years of religious life, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2014 at Devonshire Senior Residence at the age of 95. (Alice) Virginia Canuelle was born in Detroit on February 5, 1919. Predeceased by her father John Canuelle and her mother Alice (nee Cadarette) and brothers George, Merrill, and John. Predeceased by her foster parents Louise and Nelson Reaume and foster sisters Rita, Agnes, and Dorothy. Dear aunt of Alice and Doreen and several other nieces and nephews. Will be sadly missed by many friends, students, and caregivers Ann and Ashley and former student Alex. Sister Alice taught in Metro Detroit area Catholic parochial schools for 35 years. She was an assistant to hospital Chaplain Fr. Arthur Weiler C.S.B. 1976-1979 at Metropolitan, Windsor Western and Grace Hospitals. Sr. Alice served as Superior at Holy Names Convent, Peter St. from 1979-1984.

on Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. Prayers at 4:30 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to gather at Our Lady of Assumption Church (350 Huron Church Rd.) on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Committal prayers at Heavenly Rest Cemetery followed by interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary for their Ministries. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with the family at

I will miss Sister Alice at our Saturday evening services at Devonshire. She was a faithful attender while she lived there.
