Alice Chiaro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 20 to Feb. 26, 2023.
Alice Louise Chiaro (nee Smith), age 87, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2023 following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. She was born October 20, 1935 in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of the late William A. and Bertha (Becker) Smith. A graduate of Rayen High School, Alice was a member of the Youngstown Hospital Association School of Nursing Class of 1957 and spent her nursing career working in the Youngstown area at Woodside Receiving Hospital, Northside Hospital, Little Forest Medical Center and Park Vista Retirement Community. Ironically, toward the end of her career, she found a special affinity caring for those with dementia-related illnesses. Alice was married to her husband, Louis A. Chiaro, for more than 60 years when he predeceased her on May 28, 2018. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia M. Chiaro (John Vujcec) of Cincinnati, OH; two sons of Youngstown, OH, Christopher W. Chiaro (Tricia) and Louis M. Chiaro (Leeann); grandchildren, Evan and Aidan Vujcec, Lyndzie and Stephanie Chiaro, and Ella and Avery Chiaro; and a brother, David F. Smith of Louisville, KY. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, William E. Smith, John F. Smith and James E. Smith and sisters, Mary Audrey Jahnke, and Patricia Singer. The family wishes to thank Alice's thoughtful and tireless caregivers at Grace Hospice of Cincinnati and Anthology of Anderson Township where she resided for the last several years of her life. A private service has already been held. Memorial donations may be directed to: Alzheimer's Foundation of America 322 8th Avenue, 16th Floor New York, NY 10001. https://alzfdn.org/support-us/donate/
