Alice Jo Ann Donathan

Alice Jo Ann Donathan, of Temple Terrace, Florida, passed away on May 2, 2025, in Gainesville, Florida. She was born on May 15, 1935, in Booneville, Arkansas, to Alvin and Marie Ashley. The youngest of five children, Jo Ann often shared fond memories of her childhood.

She graduated as a registered nurse from Sparks Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. With a strong work ethic instilled by her parents, Jo Ann dedicated over four decades to the emergency department at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. Her integrity and dedication fostered many lasting friendships among her colleagues.

Jo Ann retired at the age of 73 and enjoyed spending time in Plant City, attending sporting events and school functions with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She played a meaningful role in their lives, emphasizing the importance of honesty and kindness.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Alvin F. Ashley and Billy L. Ashley; and her sisters, Helen Dunn and Mildred Ashley.

Jo Ann is survived by her daughters, Mary "Kay" Tucker (Carl) of Plant City and Susan Crane of Gainesville; six grandchildren: Julie Marsteller, Mark Tucker, Esq., Dr. Michael Tucker, Matthew Tucker, Alicen Hodge, and Jared Crane; and great-grandchildren: Maddison, Brayden, Macie, Adelyn, Paloma, and Elias.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Jo Ann's son-in-law, Mike Crane, for the care and support he provided during her stay in Gainesville.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
