SALEM — Alice (Foye) Famico-Kenney, 93, a lifelong resident of Salem, died peacefully early Monday morning, July 7, 2008 in the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Frank J. Famico and the late Joseph Kenney.
Born in Salem the daughter of the late Samuel and Lillian (Dingle) Foye, she attended the Phillips School in Salem. Following her graduation from Salem High School, she was trained at the Salem Hospital School of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse. For over 30 years she employed at Salem Hospital as a LPN. Her employment began as a night shift nurse at Salem Hospital. She worked on the former children's ward until it merged with the North Shore Children's Hospital where she remained for many years until her retirement. At her retirement party, she was presented with the rocker she used many a night singing a sick child to sleep.
She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and spent many summers at Camp Naumkeag as a camp councilor where she also had served on the Board of Directors in her retirement. She had also been a volunteer at the Shaughnessy Hospital Gift shop.
Her hobby for years was knitting personalized Christmas stockings that many people cherish and hang every year.
She is survived by five children, Elizabeth M. Montoni, Chet Famico and Donald and his wife Joanne Famico all of Salem, Nancy Savy and her husband Joe of Beverly and Frances J. Grace of Hamilton; her very special Godchild, Ann Louise Morlock; 15 grandchildren, Richard, John, and Beth Montoni, Mary Jane Thomas, Robin Montoni, Linda Clure, Constance Poulsen, Andrew Savy, Tamara Casey, Charles Grace, Dominic and Lauren Famico, Alison McElroy, Jay and Heather Famico; 17 great-grandchildren; her sister- in-law, Nesta Foye of Topsfield and Caroline Foye of Vermont; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Grace Reardon of Salem, and two brothers, Donald and Elmer Foye of Topsfield.
The family would like to thank all of the staff and employees of Grosvenor Park Nursing Home for their kindness, exemplary care and professionalism.
ARRANGEMENTS: In lieu of floral tributes, kindly consider a memorial donation in her memory to the Grosvenor Park Resident's Council Fund, 7 Loring Hills Ave., Salem MA 01970. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial services on Thursday, July 10. 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Tabernacle Church, corner of Washington and Federal Streets, Salem. At the family's request there will be no visitation. Private burial will be held at the Foye family lot in Harmony Grove Cemetery. To you all,
my very deepest sympathy on the loss of such a lovely lady. I have so many happy memories of the days she and Frank used to visit her cousin Hattie in Topsfield - so many good times and lots of fun and laughter.
She was a lovely lady who brought up a lovely family and will be missed by many.
