Alice Klassen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 13, 2015.
Alice May Klassen (nee Ives)

Our mother Alice Klassen passed away peacefully on August 13, 2015 at the age of 87 with her family by her side.

Before settling in Winnipeg with our father to raise her family, Mom lived in many small towns in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. She loved playing the piano, curling at the Pembina Curling Club and was a sports enthusiast. She loved to travel and always had a zest for fun and adventure.

Alice was predeceased by her loving husband, Bill; is survived by her children, Arlene (Ray Erb), Ray (Karen) and Deborah (Peter Findlay); and by her three grandchildren, Christopher, Craig and Abigail. She will be sadly missed.

Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held.

The family would like to thank the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to CancerCare Manitoba or to a charity of their choice.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

My sincerest condolences to Arlene, Debbie and Ray.
The last time I saw Aunt Alice was in '91 at my brother Don's wedding in Edmonton. Uncle Bill was there too.
There was always a special connection between them and Don & I, but an ocean and half a continent have a tendency to keep people apart.
We were always received at their home with open arms, even though we were Easterners, both as children and adults .
Her passing invokes fond memories of the many summer activities while staying at the house, or going to the lake (swimming, waterskiing & playing cards with cousin and cousines). In the 60's, a pool table in the basement was just too cool! Alice & Bill convinced my Dad that I should get my driver's permit the same year as Ray.
I remember long conversations with Alice in her kitchen where I was able to glean information about my Dad who was never very forthcoming on personal stuff.
She shall forever remain in my heart.

Arlene,Ray, Debbie and families.Condolences on the passing of your mom. She and Edna were friends for many years and mom recalls many Sunday visits for coffee as well as trips to shop and visit. Edna is especially thankful that Alice made trips to Lac du bonnet to visit her and on one visit brought Gladys with her.Alice was always a lot of fun. I got to reconnect with her and all of you in more recent years and am very grateful for all of those visits. Dick and I agree that Alice was a lot of fun to be with and she will be missed, by Edna most of all! Our thoughts are with you all. Edna, Bonnie and Dick.

Arlene, Ray, and Debbie and families,
I will fondly remember Alice, my Mother-in-Law, as a kind, generous, and supportive person, who gave so much to others. She had the ability to make others laugh and smile and looked at every situation in a positive manner, no matter what it was. She had a practical approach and would not be afraid to "give the goods" and say what she means. I always enjoyed learning of her life growing up in rural Saskatchewan, and sharing laughs together as we discussed her favorite hockey and football teams from Winnipeg and Saskatchewan, as Alice was a keen sports enthusiast. Alice will be remembered as a wonderful Mother, passionate provider and care-giver, who always looked after others first.

Dear Arlene and family,
My condolences on the passing of your mother. I remember her being a spirited person and no doubt that quality has been passed on to her children. My thoughts are with you as you remember your mother and celebrate her life.
