Alice Lundgren-Tenglin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 7, 2013.
Alice (Larson) Lundgren-Tenglin, 98, formerly of North Attleboro, died on May 7, 2013 at the home of her son, Fred Lundgren, in Cardiff by the Sea, California where she had resided for the last five years. Born on October 28, 1914, in Attleboro, to the late John and Ingeborg Larson, Mrs. Tenglin had three younger sisters, Helen Darelius, Bertha Nelson, and Marion Inman, whom she remained close to throughout their lives. After completing college and fulfilling her dream to teach, she married the late Paul Lundgren and had two children, Susan and Fred. Upon the untimely death of Paul, she returned to teaching until her retirement from fulltime work at the age of 65. Many will remember Farmer's School, the perfect little red schoolhouse on West Street in Attleboro where she impacted the lives of those in her charge. Her career was filled with great and memorable experiences with her beloved children and their families. Many stayed in touch and some even called her into her mid-nineties. Because of her love of teaching, she soon returned to teach sewing and craft classes. She amazed her family and friends with her prescient knowledge of fashion, fitness, and healthy eating habits. Mrs. Tenglin was an active and devoted member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Attleboro, which was an integral part of her daily life. In her late seventies she married the late Carl Tenglin, a longtime family friend and equally vigorous member of the church. Upon her marriage she gained five stepsons, Richard, Jim, Roger, Malcolm, and Kenneth and their families, who added even more depth and meaning to her life. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Tenglin were role models: travelling, staying fit, active and involved in a variety of events. Her favorite pastimes included those spent walking, reading, gardening, quilting, knitting, and family gatherings, of which she participated until the end of her impressive life. In addition to her son and daughter and five stepsons, she leaves 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and various nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Funeral Service Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 1:00 PM at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 841 North Main Street – Route 152, Attleboro. Committal service in the North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro, where family and friends will walk from the church to the interment site. Rev. Douglas J. Bixby, Senior Pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Tenglin's name may be made to the Alice Lundgren-Tenglin Memorial Fund at the Evangelical Covenant Church.
