Alice MURRAY Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 29 to Oct. 6, 2019.
MURRAY, Alice Ellen Passed away Sunday, September 29, 2019 at the age of 96 in Almonte, Ontario. She and her sister Barbara were born in St. Catharines, Ontario to Clifford and Ethel Moon. There Alice met and married Walter A. Murray, a banker and with him had two sons, Graham and Scott. The family then moved around southwestern Ontario, with stops in such places as St. Thomas and Windsor, making friends at each location. After raising her family, she pursued a successful career as a harness racing publicist, working at the Windsor Raceway and others. Later in life, after suffering a debilitating stroke and losing her partner, Fran Smith, she moved from Sarnia to eastern Ontario to be nearer to her sons. Alice was a beautiful women and always carried herself with grace and style. She was an avid reader, a very sharp card player, a fierce scrabble opponent, and an enthusiastic golfer. She also loved a good party. Everyone would agree that she had a sweet disposition, yet within existed an iron resolve to overcome life's tribulations. She will be sorely missed by her sons and their wives (Janet and Karen) as well as her four grandchildren, Ross, Alison, Bradley and Ryan and their spouses and partners and her brother-in-law, Wynne Thomas. The Murray family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the residents and staff of Fairview Manor (Almonte) for their unceasing kindness towards, and support of, Alice during her final years there. She will be interred beside her parents and sister in the Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St. Catharines, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Almonte General Hospital-Fairview Manor Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
