Alice Neves

Alice (Moniz) Neves, age 93, of New Bedford, passed away, Friday, April 25, 2014. She was the wife of the late Edward L. Neves.

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Benevides) Moniz, she was a lifelong resident of the city.

In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Neves owned and operated a Day Care which she ran out of her home for many years and received many letters of recommendation. Prior to that, she worked at both the former Grant's Department Store and the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in New Bedford.

A United States Army Veteran, she served during World War II as a Nurse. She loved her family unconditionally helping them whenever needed. After her sister-in-law passed, Alice raised her children: Melinda Torres, Edward Deconinck, and Roberta Borges.

Mrs. Neves was a lady with impeccable character, an excellent cook and housekeeper, and young in heart enough to cope with young children and their needs.

She is survived by her grandson and caregiver, Scott Levesque and his girlfriend Dawn Alberts; daughter, Mary Grace Neves and her husband Gary Patterson of New Bedford, her granddaughter, Heather Cyr, and several nieces and nephews.

Her Burial will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 10 AM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne, in Bourne, MA. Relatives and friends invited. Contributions in her honor may be made to: St. Jude's Research Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
